44 NCAA DIVISION III ALL-STAR PLAYERS NAMED TO TEAM STARS & STRIPES
ROSTER FOR 2012 TAZÓN DE ESTRELLAS TO BE PLAYED IN MEXICO
D-III seniors from 26 schools will face CONADEIP All-Stars in Guadalajara on December 15
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2012 – GRANBURY, TX – Seniors representing 26 NCAA Division III schools have
been named to the Team Stars & Stripes roster for the Tazón de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) to be played
at La Fortaleza Azul (The Blue Fortress) against the CONADEIP All-Stars in Guadalajara in Mexico at 12pm
CET on Saturday, December 15.
Team Stars & Stripes Director of Player Personnel John Roslien has selected 44 players who were
nominated by head coaches at NCAA D-III colleges to participate in the fourth annual game that is
organized by Global Football. Under head Coach Don De Waard and his five assistant coaches, the
Americans will look to avenge a 45-27 loss suffered last year at the hands of the home team drawn from
the CONADEIP national conference of private schools in Mexico.
Roslien is a veteran of 15 previous Tazón de Estrellas and Aztec Bowl games and is the athletic training
education program director at Central College in Iowa.
“A huge thanks needs to go to John Roslien for all his efforts in putting together our roster, working closely
with our coaching staff and D3 coaches across America.” said Global Football President Patrick
Steenberge. “This takes a huge effort, as does the entire Tazón event, and we are extremely proud to be
able to have worked together for the past 15 years to provide this opportunity for top student athletes at
the Division III level.”
The universities and colleges represented on Team Stars & Stripes are: Amherst College, Augustana
College, Buena Vista University, Central College, Centre College, College of Mt. St. Joseph, College of St.
Scholastica, Dickinson College, Elmhurst College, Framingham State, Grinnell College, Grove City College,
Hanover College, Kalamazoo College, Lake Forest College, Loras College, Manchester University, North
Central College, Ohio Northern University, Salisbury University, SUNY Maritime College, Susquehanna
University, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Wartburg College,
Waynesburg University.
Lake Forest head coach Jim Catanzaro is among the Team Stars & Stripes staff and was named Midwest
Conference Coach of the Year this season. He will bring with him running back and conference Player of
the Year Al Mitchell, who finished sixth in the league with 865 rushing yards on the season and scored
seven touchdowns on the ground. He also caught 35 passes for 300 yards and three more scores.
Mitchell finished his Foresters career with 1,977 rushing yards, the fifth-highest total in program history.
Joining Mitchell in the backfield will be John Hill of Buena Vista University who led the team in rushing this
season and was tabbed a Second Team All-Iowa Conference offensive performer. “This certainly means a
lot and is a huge honor,” said Hill. “I just feel blessed that I get to partake in at least one more game,
especially one of this magnitude. I’m looking forward to leaving the country and meeting the new players
and coaches.”
Elmhurst College Offensive Line Coach Ron Tyner has taken the place of Bluejays head coach Tim Lester
on the Team Stars & Stripes offensive staff and three Elmhurst players who will join him in Mexico – OL
Charles Homoky, DL Peter Stamos and LB Wayne Tuckson – were all named to the all-conference first
team. Stamos earned the third all-conference honor of his career at right guard while Homoky picked up
his second all-conference accolade at left tackle. Tuckson received the second all-conference honor of his
career at linebacker. He led the team in total tackles (92), solo tackles (63) and assisted tackles (29). He
also led the squad in tackles for loss (12) and sacks (three) and had an interception return for a touchdown
in the Bluejays’ win over Wheaton.
Head coach Don De Waard will have four players from Central College, where he is the defensive
coordinator, including a pair of linebackers in Seth Carson and Andrew Weaks. Carson finished second on
the team with 64 tackles and an interception, while Weaks posted 40 tackles, including 6 for a loss and a
sack. Dutch receiver Ben Lechtenberg will pose an offensive threat for the Americans having led Central
with 392 receiving yards for 2 touchdowns on 29 catches.
Team Stars & Stripes player notes:
 Augustana College TB Brett McWilliams was second on the team with 416 yards and 4 TDs on 69
carries.
 Second Team All-Iowa Conference offensive selection wide receiver Logan Lehrkamp of Buena
Vista University wrapped up his with 116 catches, 1,618 yards and 10 TDs.
 Centre College kicker Jordan Gay was named SAA Special Teams Player of the Year after being
selected for the same award a year ago by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and being
named Special Teams Player of the Week five times in 10 weeks this season. Gay finished the year
with a 44.8-yard average and a long of 59 yards on 34 punts, landing seven of those inside the 20.
He also made eight field goals with a school-record long of 53 and made all 32 of his extra point
attempts.
 College of Mt. St. Joseph RB James Clay leads NCAA DIII football finishing the 2012 season with
2,124 yards rushing, 21 rushing TDs (23 overall) and 2,520 all-purpose yards. Clay has set several
Team and Conference records including a game-high 342 yards rushing and has been selected the
Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Most Valuable Player.
 College of St. Scholastica DL Zack Dubanoski was named to the All-Upper Midwest Athletic
Conference first team. He has been major part in the Saints leading the conference in total
defense, rush defense and sacks. Dubanoski is second on the team with 70 tackles, marking his
second consecutive season with at least 70 tackles. He leads the team and the conference with 4.5
sacks in league play and is second on the team with nine tackles for a loss.
 Framingham State DB Tyrone Notice earned NEFC Bogan first team honors. Notice is one of the
anchors of the Rams secondary that is ranked second in the NEFC in pass defense as he racked up
25 tackles this season with five interceptions and eight pass breakups.
 DL Tom Brinkman from Ginnell College was named to the All-Midwest Conference Football team
as he had 46 tackles this season including four for loss and 2.5 sacks and ranked sixth in the MWC
in fumble recoveries with two.
 RB Shane Kaclik led Grove City College with 1,127 yards and 15 touchdowns on 240 carries.
 LB Jason Ferguson led Grove City with 84 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and an
interception.

Hanover College WR Daniel Passafiume was a first team all-Heartland Conference selection. He
closed his career as the fifth-leading receiver in NCAA history (all-divisions) with 344 catches. He
also leaves the program as Hanover’s career leader with 3,485 receiving yards and 39 receiving
touchdowns. He holds the NCAA record for the most receptions (25) in a single game.
Kalamazoo College RB Demiko Price earned All-MIAA First Team honors at running back for the
second consecutive year. He was also a first team selection as a return specialist in 2010 while also
earning second team honors at running back. In conference play this season Price was second in
the league in all-purpose yards (135.2 ypg) and third in rushing yards (73.5). Overall, Price rushed
for 841 yards and six touchdowns while breaking Kalamazoo's career rushing record. He also led
the team with 425 receiving yards and two touchdowns while also averaging 19.2 yards per kick
return.
Quarterback Peter Scaffidi set passing records at Lake Forest College including the most
touchdowns all-time, and threw for 1,900 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2012. He became the
fourth player to pass for more than 5,000 yards in school history.
Loras College OL Nick Holeton was named to the All IIAC second team.
Manchester University WR Kurt Monix was an All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference first
team selection as he led the team with 751 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns.
Ohio Northern pair OL Tyler Joseph and DL Cody Kelly were named to the All-Ohio Athletic
Conference second team. Joseph started 32 games for the Polar Bears, while Kelly started 41 and
finished his career ranked No. 10 all-time at ONU with 14.5 career sacks and had 175 tackles in his
career.
Salisbury University RB Joe Benedetti has run for 1,126 yards and 12 TDs on 187 attempts and was
named to the All Empire 8 First Team. He ran for a career-high 216 yards and four scores in a
season-opening win at Christopher Newport University on Sept. 1. He was named BSN Division III
Running Back of the Week for his efforts.
SUNY Maritime College OL Andrew Cohen received an Eastern Collegiate Football Conference
honorable mention.
Susquehanna DL Ken Schetroma, a team captain, earned a spot on the All-Centennial Conference
First Team after picking up Second-Team honors as a junior. This season, he racked up 51 tackles
(33 solo, 18 assisted), 10 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception – the first of his career - broke
up four passes and defended five more. Schetroma also forced two fumbles and recovered
another.
Versatile U.S. Merchant Marine Academy QB Alex Coviello can also line up at receiver and running
back.
Waynesburg University DL Matthew Krause, a four-year starter, exploded for his best year with
the Jackets by finishing second on the team in tackles (47), tackles for loss (6.0) and sacks (4.0)
despite playing a position that usually doesn't see much statistical production. He won allPresidents’ Athletic Conference first team honors.
UW-Whitewater DT Jacob Hohlstein was credited with 12 solo tackles, ten assists, 6.5 tackles for a
loss of 22 yards, and 2.5 sacks for a loss of ten yards as he earned All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference honors.
UW-Whitewater RB Bernie Tamsett was named to the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference second team.
