EMC Performing Arts Studio
Spring Concert Performance Packet
Dear Parents,
Spring is in the air! That means the EMC Spring Concert is just around the corner. Our students and staff are busy
getting ready for the big day at the Pullo Center. This is an exciting time for our dancers and it is truly an honor for them
to perform in such a beautiful theater as the Pullo Center!
Dances are taking shape, costumes are arriving, and the magic of performance time is in the air! Amidst the anticipation
and excitement, production can be a very hectic experience, especially for parents.
If this is your first time performing with us, don’t be intimidated! We will help you through every step of the
way. Hopefully you will enjoy the process of seeing over 100 children and parents work together to make this production
come alive. As you leave the theater after the final curtain falls, I hope you will be filled with pride over the
accomplishments of these dancers. It’s a wonderful feeling!
In an attempt to make things as organized as possible, we have compiled this Performance Packet. Please take the time
to read your packet carefully and mark your calendars. We have created and developed these policies to ensure a
professional production that will be rewarding and enjoyable for dancers, parents, volunteers and staff. We appreciate
your cooperation during this busy time.
Rehearsals / Commitment:
Attendance at all rehearsals is required. Remember that each dancer is an important part of the show. When one
dancer is missing the others are held back. EMC reserves the right to remove a dancer from part or all of a dance as a
result of absences from rehearsals.
Dancers who do not attend the Technical/Dress rehearsals on-stage will not be permitted to perform.
Because we respect your time, we will create “minute-by-minute schedules” which will tell you exactly when we are
running your dances during the Production Rehearsals. Sometimes we will run the show out of order for your
convenience. We often run the Finale / Bows (which includes ALL DANCERS) in the middle of a rehearsal so people can
leave, however as the show nears, realize that we do need to run the show in order.
There will be times when your dancer will be waiting. Feel free to drop your child off and let the Class Moms take over.
Note that the last week of rehearsals in the studio (Sat May 30- Thur June 4) are dress rehearsals EXCEPT no costumes
needed for the Dance Company Rehearsal on Tues June 3.
All rehearsals are held at EMC until Sat June 6 and Sun June 7. These are technical / dress rehearsals that will be held at
The Pullo Family Performing Arts Center in York.
Costumes:
EMC owns many of the costumes that the dancers will be wearing. Parents will be charged for costumes that are lost or
damaged, so please encourage your child to treat them with respect.
See the Costume Chart for accessories that parents need to purchase.
No underpants are to be worn under costumes. Please purchase a flesh colored leotard for hygiene and discretion.
The Costume Parade is on Sat May 16 between 3:00-6:00. See the Costume Parade Schedule for your child’s time. This
event is IMPORTANT! It is the day when students get their costumes, try them on, arrange for alterations and take their
costumes home. Several seamstresses will be on hand to make minor alterations to costumes at no charge to you. This
is a service that we offer at EMC because we value you and want to make this experience easy for you.
If you do not attend the Costume Parade, you will need to make a special appointment with Miss Rachel to take care of
you. This is very inconvenient. We prefer to do it all at once at the Costume Parade. Please make every effort to
attend. If you are unable to attend the Costume Parade, you are responsible for your own alterations.
Dress Rehearsals begin on Sat May 30. No costumes needed for Dance Company Rehearsal on Tues June 2.
All dancers must have complete costume, hair and make-up for Picture Day (May 31) and both Pullo Days (June 6 & 7)
when the photographers are present. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Make-Up:
Female students should wear make-up for the Tech/Dress Rehearsals on stage and Performances. Stage lights will make
the dancers look pale and washed out, so make-up is essential. We prefer natural tones. Boys will also wear make-up.
This year, we will be creating a uniform make-up look for all dancers.

is very generous of her. If you wish to contact her, her email address is: lnm1380@hotmail.com
For Kreative Kidz Dancers, single use kits are available at the front desk for $2.50 each. You will need 3.
Shopping List for your Hair/Make-up Kit:
Thick hair elastics, bobby pins, hair pins, hair brush, gel, hairspray, hairnets, safety pins, band-aids, water bottle,
chemical ice pack, clear nail polish for runs in tights, nail polish remover, cotton balls, and a large button up shirt to
cover up costumes when dancers travel to the balcony to view the rehearsals or show.
PLEASE wear a cover up over your fleshie when eating. Under no circumstances should any dancer eat in a costume.
Hair:
Hair must be worn in a secure, slick bun for all rehearsals and performances.
KK Dancers may wear bangs if they are shorter than the eyebrows. TP Dancers should slick their bangs back.
If you think your child’s hair is too short for a bun, let us try.
Do not use fancy bows, scrunchies or clips.
Head pieces must be secured with bobby pins or elastic under the chin.
If a headpiece is to be worn on the side of the head, put it on the dancer’s left side.
A “Bun-Making Workshop” will be held during the Costume Parade. Moms who need advice, tips or practice should plan
to attend. See the Costume Parade Schedule. A video will also be available on our web-site and Facebook page in late
May.
Project Crock-Pot:
On Sat May 30, Sat June 6 and Sun June 7, we will have “Project Crock-Pot” in effect to feed our dancers, Class
Moms, teachers and stage crew.
KK dancers will participate on Sat June 6 & Sun June 7 at The Pullo Center ONLY. KK parents should sign up to
bring something both times.
TP dancers will participate on Sat May 30, Sat June 6 and Sun June 7. All TP parents are asked to sign up 3
times.
A few guidelines:
If you don’t contribute, please do not partake.
Do not send anything with nuts.
No desserts.
No drinks other than small water bottles. Big water bottles get wasted after a few sips.
Send a serving spoon with your dish if needed and be sure to label everything that you want back with your
name.
Use Crock-Pot liners.
Take your dirty dishes home with you at the end of each rehearsal.
Anything left behind at Pullo MIGHT be brought back to EMC, depending on how tired I am, and how full the
truck is. You can check the kitchen at EMC in the weeks following the show, but I make no guarantees.
Bows:
All performers including Dads, will be featured in the Bows. Please attend the rehearsals listed in the Minute x
Minute schedule.
Photography:
Ink and Pam Byers will be at EMC on Sun May 31 to take posed individual and group photos of the dancers, musicians
and gymnasts. Attendance is encouraged but not required. All students will be photographed according to the Picture
Day Schedule.
At the Pullo Center on Saturday, Pam & Ink will take candid backstage shots as well as photos of the dancers onstage.
ALL PERFORMERS MUST BE IN FULL COSTUME AND MAKE-UP ON SATURDAY and SUNDAY! NO EXCEPTIONS.
There are no forms to fill out or checks to write. Shortly after the performance, I will email you a link to the photos. If
you see something you like, you can order it. No obligation.
Videography:
Videotaping is allowed during the Pullo Center rehearsals but not during the performance. You do not have permission
to record the choreography that is owned by EMC in its final performance onstage. We take this very seriously.
Everyone who pays a Performance Fee will receive a professional DVD copy of the show, so sit back and enjoy it!
Please pick your DVD up at the studio in August. Watch your emails for details.
(Due to Miss Robin’s son, Nicholas’ graduation party, there will not be a Video Premier this year. We WILL be bringing
back the Holiday Ball, though! And the Video Premier will be back next summer.)
DVDs that are not picked up by September 1 will be sold to families who want additional copies. You are not guaranteed
a DVD if you do not pick it up by September 1.
Tickets:
In order for EMC to be able to continue to provide the Pullo Center to our dancers as a performance venue, it is
imperative that we all try to SELL TICKETS! The theater is a significant expense and we need to put bodies in those seats
to pay for the privilege of this experience. There are 1000 seats in the Pullo Center and we have a little over 100
performers. Please try to sell 10 tickets.
Consider giving Spring Concert tickets as Mother’s Day or Father’s Day gifts or end-of-year teacher gifts!
Tickets go on sale Monday, May 18 at the Pullo Center Box Office. Tickets are $20.00 in advance and $22.50 at the door.
A limited number of $10.00 tickets are available in the rear of the theater. These are ideal for friends of dancers who
are on a budget.
To order tickets: www.pullocenter.yk.psu.edu/index.php or call 717-505-8900
PULLO POLICY: Children ages 12 months and older need a ticket.
***As a courtesy to you, we will again be having a PRESALE at the front desk from Mon May 11 through Thur May 14.
The advantages to purchasing your tickets from EMC during the Pre-Sale are: avoidance of the Pullo Center’s surcharges
and CONVENIENCE for you.
Flowers:
EMC will be offering flower bouquets for sale in the lobby this year, in addition to the Dance Shoppe's gift table. We will
be taking orders for flower bouquets on May 11, 12, 13, 14 at the Ticket Pre Sale, so when you order your tickets, you
can also order your flowers. There will be some extra bouquets available at the Pullo for sale, but we encourage you to
order them in advance.
Picking up your child after the show:
For security reasons, parents are not permitted backstage. After the show, please wait for your Technique Program
Dancers, Hot Shot or Black Jack in the downstairs lobby, near the café. Yes, it will be a mad house, but please resist the
temptation to go backstage. If your child is old enough (you decide), you may have her/him meet you in the loading
dock parking lot with her/his rack and belongings and avoid the crowd in the lobby. Kreative Kidz Dancers will be
methodically released from the upstairs dressing room as they are ready. Please send ONE representative from your
family upstairs and wait OUTSIDE the vestibule, inside the hallway. As dancers are ready, a volunteer will walk them out
of the dressing room, announce their name and hand them off to the family member. Thank you for your cooperation.
After Party:
After the show, EMC families tend to gather at Crimson in York, Ruby Tuesdays in Shrewsbury or Seven in New
Freedom. Join us at one of these spots and join in our after-glow!
Feedback:
For me, the best thing about the “day after the show” is sleeping late, spending the day with my dad (who
travels from Connecticut each June and never misses a show) and reading all the wonderful emails that
parents send me! It has become a tradition that I treasure. If you are so inclined to share your warm and
fuzzy, proud parent moments with me, I would LOVE to receive them. I will most likely print them out, put
them in my “happy book” and look at them on days when I need a “pick-me-up”. I appreciate these letters
more than you will ever know. If, by chance you have a criticism or complaint, please know that I value those
as well, but would appreciate if you would wait until Tuesday to send them to me. .
Final Note:
Every year, my staff and I strive to make the Production more fabulous than it was the year before. By this, I mean that I
hope the children are well-prepared, confident and professional. I hope that you, as parents will see the fruits of your
commitment to this program and to your child. I hope that you and your family will be proud of your dancers’
accomplishments.
As with any event of this size, there will be bumps along the way. We are doing our best to respect your time and solve
problems as they arise. Your cooperation and support are appreciated.
Please let’s remain cool-headed and POSITIVE in this hectic time.
Thank you.
Miss Robin
