Asian Pacific Heritage Month 2015 Many Faces, One Voice The 2015 Asian Pacific Heritage Awards CALL FOR NOMINATIONS Nominations due to yenc@stjohns.edu No later than 5:00p.m. PST, Tuesday, April 14, 2015 As part of SJU cultural heritage celebration of Asian Pacific Heritage Month, the Asian Pacific Heritage Awards will be presented to three individuals and two student organizations for their professional achievements and contributions to the University Asian community. ELIGIBILITY OF NOMINEES: To be eligible, all nominees must be a current member of St. John's University. An employee nominee must be a current St. John's University faculty, administrator, or staff. A student nominee must be enrolled in an undergraduate or 5-year/6-year degree program at the time of their nomination and with good judicial standing. A student organization nominee must be with active status under Student Government Incorporated at the time of the nomination. NOMINATION PROCESS AND ANNOUNCEMENT Nomination period is from April 1 through April 14, 2015. The Asian Pacific Heritage Awards Committee will review all nominations submitted by the deadline date and select the finalists. All finalists will be notified by April 20, 2015 and will be invited to the Annual APHM Closing Dinner: Full Moon Formal on Saturday, April 25, 2015. The winning recipients/groups will be announced during the event and presented with the awards. All nominations with supporting documents must be submitted to MulticulturalAffairs@my.stjohns.edu with subject line: "2015 Asian Pacific Heritage Award” no later than 5:00p.m. PST, Tuesday, April 14, 2015. Supporting documents can include website information, YouTube links, and any other web related information supporting this nomination. AWARD CATEGORIES Outstanding Administrator/Staff Award (Individual) Inspirational Leadership Award (Individual) Legacy Award (Individual) Community Impact Award (Student Organization) Outstanding Student Organization Award(Student Organization) Outstanding Administrator Award The Outstanding Administrator Award honors an administrator or staff who has reached out to all students and specifically those students of Asian-Pacific descent. This individual has gone above and beyond the call of duty to support Asian students personally and professionally, and provide mentorship, exceptional service and guidance throughout the 2014-2015 academic year. Inspirational Leadership Award The Inspirational Leadership Award honors a full-time Asian student leader who has been involved in many different aspects of University life, has displayed outstanding leadership qualities to the Asian-Pacific student community, and served as a mentor to other students throughout the 2014-2015 academic year. This student must maintain academic success with a G.P.A. of 3.0 and above. Legacy Award The Legacy Award honors an Asian faculty member and/or Asian administrator of St. John's University who has achieved a legacy of success in academia and student life, has gone above and beyond the call of duty to tirelessly and effortlessly serve all students, specifically those of Asian-Pacific descent, and has had a lasting impact in championing opportunities for AsianPacific students at St. John’s University. This individual must have been active at St. John's University for a minimum of 7-10 years. Community Impact Award (Best Collaborated Student Organization) The Community Impact Award honors an Asian student organization who has achieved significant impact in developing a distinct venue or opportunity to promote Asian Pacific cultural heritage through collaboration with other student organizations and University departments and offices so that the programmed events can reach a broader participants. The organization will be evaluated based on the numbers of events programmed, participants at the events, and collaborators for the events throughout the 2014-2015 academic year. Outstanding Student Organization Award The Outstanding Student Organization Award honors an Asian student organization that has programmed events for the Asian-Pacific student community, engaged in exceptional community service, maintained a growing membership, actively co-sponsored with other organizations, and has served as an example for other organizations to follow throughout the 2014-2015 academic year. The organization will be evaluated based on the following criteria: Event Programming (25 points) Community Service Hours (25 points) Collaborations (25 points) Contributions to University and Community (25 points) Note: Both of the awards for student organizations focus on programs and events within and/or outside of the University, whereby the organization provides services to the University campus and local communities. Documentation for evidence of participation and/or sponsorship (i.e. recognition/commendation letters and e-mails, promotional materials) should be provided to receive full points.
