About the
Organizer
China Training Center of Reproductive Health and Family Care (CTC) located in
Taicang, Jiangsu Province and established in October of 2005, is a non-profit organization
and state-level training center under the instruction of National Health and Family Planning

Commission (NHFPC). With the aim of enhancing communication and cooperation in the
field of health and family planning, CTC now serves for developing and implementing
various training programs, South-South Cooperation, North-South Cooperation and research
and industrial development programmes on population and development.
Since establishment, CTC has successfully organized 20 foreign aid training
programmes for government officials, programme managers and technical service providers
from 70 developing countries, with the total participants amounted to 567 persons, including
the former Vice President of Comoros, the First Lady of South Africa, and 66
ministerial-level senior officials. The training covers a broad range of themes, including
population and development, population programme management and capacity building,
South-South Cooperation, population and climate change, maternal and child health, sexual
and reproductive health and rights, etc.
Ministerial Seminar on Population, Sustainable Development and Poverty Reduction
for Developing Countries will introduce the concept, path and practice in solving population
problems comprehensively in China. The Seminar will emphasize in sharing evidences of
fully including population policies and actions into long-term economic and social
development of the country in order to reduce poverty and promote sustainable
development. Latest process, dynamics and best practices will also be included in the
Seminar so that the planning and management ability of developing countries in population,
sustainable development and poverty reduction areas can be strengthened in order to

accelerate the steps of building win-win South-South cooperation partnership between

developing countries in these areas.
Content
The Seminar will consist of topic discussion and study tours:
Topic discussion will be divided into macro strategy research and achievement
experience sharing. For macro strategy, the Seminar will base on frames of ICPD POA and
MDGs, review the implementation situation of targets in population, sustainable
development and poverty reduction areas of present world. Building policies and strategies
for poverty reduction, promotion of a balanced population growth in long-term and social
sustainable development will be explored in the first part. For achievement experience
sharing, the Seminar will majorly introduce the history process and latest news of policies in
population, poverty reduction and sustainable development of China. Strategy systems and

practical experience of China’s population information construction, sustainable study,
poverty reduction ability construction and South-South cooperation will be underlined
combining new circumstance and characteristics happened in China and other developing
countries in these areas recently.
Except topic discussion, the Seminar will arrange study tours of national research
institutions and service agencies at local level of population areas in Beijing and Taicang
(Jiangsu Province) for ministerial participants. With study tours, participants can learn the
practical experience of population, sustainable study and poverty reduction areas from
China. Furthermore, the Seminar will also arrange activities for participants to enjoy
Chinese’s traditional culture and scenic spots and historic sites so that they can have a more
comprehensive understanding of China’s social and economic development. In addition, the
Seminar will provide the opportunity to officials to experience the traditional Chinese
culture and enjoy historical places of interests, making them feel deep of Chinese social
economic development.
