The First Regional/International Conference for Taiwan Group of Society for
Psychotherapy Research (TW-SPR)
Psychotherapy Research could be Fun! Building Bridges
between Research and Practice
Theme:
The theme of the first regional/international psychotherapy research conference of Taiwan group
of Society for Psychotherapy Research is “Building Bridges between Research and Practice.”
The Program Council encourages proposals that demonstrate or foster clinically relevant science
(applied and basic; quantitative and qualitative) for the understanding, conduct, and
improvement of psychotherapy. Although preference in general will be given to presentation of
completed studies, we also encourage submissions of research project at various stages of
development.
Conference Features

Keynote addresses, Creative symposium, panel discussion, poster, oral presentation, cultural
exploration activities, and future collaborative opportunities are included;

Two Keynote Addresses: Dr. William B. Stiles (Miami U) "Using practice-based evidence
and theory-building case studies in psychotherapy research "; Dr. Shuh-Ren Jin (U of
Macau), “Psychotherapy Research Could Be Fun: My Research Experiences on the
“Psychological Displacement”;

The special banquet and panel discussion will be held in the “Paper Dome”, where is a
treasure sightseeing spot in Puli; The theme of panel discussion is “How to submit
manuscripts into the Psychotherapy Research journal: Suggestions from hearts”

Excellent Awards for TW-SPR Poster Presentation will be selected from the poster session;

Special rates for students and SPR members; and,
 Continuing education credits for Taiwan licensed counseling and clinical psychologists.
Types of Submissions
Poster Presentation
Poster submission is encouraged in the conference. Excellent poster presenters will be awarded.
Posters appropriate for the full range of research reports, including completed projects, single
case studies, pilot studies, and work-in-progress. We will try to group the posters by topic to
stimulate discussion and exchange of ideas. Poster presenters are also encouraged to link up with
each other if they know they will be presenting on common themes. Required poster size will be
announced on the conference website.
Oral Presentation
Oral presentation sessions will be 90 minutes and will consist of three to four individual papers,
with 5 minutes for discussion allotted to each presentation. Each presentation is expected to be a
15-20 minutes report about completed studies. The Program Council will designate moderators
for the sessions. If it proves difficult to schedule all submissions of oral presentation, the
Program Council may request you to consider presenting your work as a poster (see above).
Please consider submitting a presentation proposal, due MAY 25, 2009. Notification of
acceptance will be sent by June 5, 2009. We will send a copy of the program to all registered
participants in late June.
Format:
The proposal should include a Submission Form (in attachment) and a 1,500- to 2,000 word
summary of the study in APA style. Although we welcome research projects at various stages of
development, complete studies are encouraged. In the submission, please include introduction,
research purpose, methods, results, and discussion. Please also include 3-4 keywords related to
your study. Both Chinese and English are welcome.
