Focusing on in & offline 3D measurement technology within body shell manufacturing, the Automation Forum will showcase how top vehicle manufacturers are driving productivity by moving quality assurance into the production process. Among the highlights will be a live demonstration of the new facility’s 360˚ SIMS (Smart Inline Measurement Solutions) cell. Utilising the large-area measurement capabilities of white light scanning equipment alongside advanced industrial robots and patented integration systems, 360˚ SIMS is Hexagon Metrology’s complete solution for fully-automated dimensional process and quality control. A technology tour will also enable attendees to get hands-on and test other leading hardware and software from Hexagon Metrology. The Automation Forum will feature presentations from top-class speakers on current trends in the automotive world and beyond, with Industry 4.0, big data and collaborative robotics among the hot topics for lively debate between metrology experts and manufacturing professionals. Headline presentations include a session on simulation and virtual offline programming from Dr Johan S. Carlson, Director of the Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centre. Mark Fulthorpe from IHS Automotive will speak how OEM are adapting to the changing needs of the market to increase flexibility in production. In addition the guests can expect how manufacturers can overcome the IT challenges of large data and interfaces as well as HR insights about needed skill sets. Attendees will also discuss best practices for automated and inline measurement in the body shop and look at the potential application of such techniques in wider functions going forward. “Naturally we are proud of our new Automation Centre and the potential it holds for innovation and training in the future,” said Per Holmberg, President Hexagon Metrology EMEA. “However, this event is about more than the facility. It will showcase an integrated approach to automotive manufacturing, helping our guests learn about how large data set measurement results can be collected, managed and used by personnel across the factory to ensure quality, monitor process stability, highlight problems and inform corrective actions.” The Automation Forum takes place in Wetzlar, Germany from 30 September to 1 October 2015. Attendance is free but spaces are limited. For more information, visit www.hexagonmetrology.de/eng/automationforum.
