Camp Horse Country at Horse Country Farm Counselor -In-Training (C.I.T.) Essay Contest Elementary, Middle and High School Students, 5th—9th grade, who have attended HORSE CAMP before. Camp 2011* *Third, Fourth and Fifth Prizes may be used toward training camp, or toward counseling weeks of camp. Essays will be judged on both content and correct use of writing conventions. Judges will look for writing that is clear, easy to understand and legible. Judges’ Decisions are final. TOPICS: Select ONE of the following topics. “I want to be a senior camp counselor and teach others about horses because…” OR “I want to learn to be a junior camp counselor and teach others about horses because…” RULES: A stapled cover sheet MUST include: name, address of entrant; telephone number, topic selected, grade that entrant is in, name of school that entrant attends, parent’s permission to enter the contest, and attend camp if chosen Age Categories: 5th – 6th grade (Junior Counselors), and 7th to 9th grade (Senior Counselors). 5th to 6th grade: Essay must be no fewer than 3 paragraphs and no more than 500 words in length, and must be legible. If word-processed, entry must be double-spaced. 7th to 9th grade: Essay must be no fewer than 5 paragraphs and no more than two pages in length, and must be legible. If word-processed, entry must be double-spaced. One entry per student, please. Essay must be solely the work of the entrant. Essay must be postmarked no later than March 1st 2011, OR IN THE HORSE COUNTRY FARM OFFICE BY March 1st, 2011. Decisions of the judges are final. Employees of Horse Country Farm and their immediate family members are not eligible for this contest. All entries become the property of Horse Country Farm and will not be returned. Winners will be notified by March 15th, 2011. Winners must attend C.I.T. training camp the week of April 4th OR April 11 th, 2011 in order to be camp counselors this summer.
