Build your own horse
Based on what you are learning in this unit, you are going to build your own horse based on genetics.
Using the horse you choose out of the book, you will find 3 viable mates that will give you a good chance
for desired traits.
You must include the following criteria:
1.
Color / markings – gene combinations as well (what possibilities could they be).
a. Also include a punnett square to show offspring
2. Height / stature
3. Performance traits
4. Anything else you deem desirable
You will find a dam and sire that will give you the best match for your desired traits. Make sure that you
consider the following:
Breed-registered or not
Tested positive for homozygous
Tested for negative defects
Bring your match set with your written characteristics. You will write 1-2 paragraphs about each
prospective mate defending your decision to breed. Paper must be at least 1 page in length, 12 pt. font,
double spaced. Only use two lines to give your name and period and 1” margins. Please include the ad
with a picture of each prospect, along a picture of the horse of your choice.
