Greetings,
As a family with a student attending Austin Parkway Elementary (APE) due to overcrowding at
Commonwealth Elementary, I want to thank you for your support and patience as our district continues to
grow. Your support of APE is greatly appreciated. Please know we are dedicated to your child’s success
here in Fort Bend ISD.
As you may know, last year Commonwealth Elementary School (CWE) reached capacity and the District
began enrolling students new to the area in APE. As APE reaches its capacity, we are enrolling
Commonwealth students at Colony Bend Elementary (CBE). This is a two-year plan that was discussed
with the Commonwealth community in the spring of 2014. At that time it was explained that the
overflow plan would impact the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years. Once ES 47 opens in the fall of
2016-17, the overflow students residing in the attendance boundary for ES 47 will transition to this new
campus and overflow students residing in the Commonwealth attendance boundary will transition to
CWE.
On March 2 and 3 after the Austin Parkway Open House, parent meetings were held to communicate the
District’s plan to address increased enrollment expected for the 2015-16 school year and how that
impacts the Commonwealth and ES 47 communities for the 2015-16 school year. The parents in
attendance expressed concern about the potential of splitting siblings by enrolling kindergarten students
living in the ES 47 boundary at CBE and enrolling Kindergarten students living in the new CWE
boundary at CWE while older siblings may be attending overflow at APE or CBE. Based on these
concerns, the District is researching the feasibility of allowing enrolling Kindergarten students to attend
the same campus as their older siblings until ES 47 opens in the fall of 2016.
In order to gather data about the number of enrolling Kindergarten students this may impact,
please take a few moments to answer the following survey Kindergarten Survey by midnight on
Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Following the review of survey data, you will receive communication
regarding CWE and ES 47 attendance area kindergarten registration for 2015-16.
Attached please find a “Frequently Asked Questions” document (FAQ) as a resource to help answer
questions you may have about attendance boundaries and new student enrollment in the Commonwealth
and ES 47 attendance boundary. If you have a question that is not addressed in the FAQ, please submit
your question through “Chat With Charles: Let’s Talk” located on the District’s website at
