The Hunger Project Empowering People - Ending Hunger Events Intern This is an exciting role for a committed and passionate individual who wants to make a difference in ending hunger and poverty. Position: Event Intern (unpaid) Location: The Hunger Project UK office in Chiswick Report to: Marketing and Communication Manager Period: 3-4 days per week for a minimum of 3 months- Starting ASAP Closing date: 28th June 2015 Why do you need an intern? The Hunger Project will organise two major events in September and November. We are looking for two intern Event Assistants to help us plan and market our events. Interns will support the team in organising the event, securing sponsorships and auction lots, and recruiting participants. The interns will gain event management and fundraising hands-on experience through this internship. We work in partnership with over 20 million people in Africa, South Asia and Latin America to develop effective bottom-up strategies with three critical elements that, when combined, empower people to make sustainable progress in overcoming hunger and poverty: ▪ ▪ ▪ Mobilizing people at the grassroots level to build self-reliance Empowering women as key agents of change Forging partnerships with local government What is the purpose of the role? • To support the team in the organisation of the event and its logistics • To ensure participants have the best possible experience of supporting The Hunger Project • To identify opportunities for continued or broader involvement with The Hunger Project What activities will the intern be directly involved with? • Assisting in the organisation and logistical planning of the events • Marketing events and recruiting participants • Supporting the team in securing sponsorship and auction lots • Assisting the team with PR and researching celebrity support for the events • Securing pro-bono services and keeping the costs of the events to a minimum • Providing excellent supporter care and nurturing relationships with our high value donors and corporate partners, contacting them to ensure they have the information, advice and material they require • Contribute to the smooth running of our events by providing support to the team before and during the events • Listening for opportunities for supporters to become involved with The Hunger Project in new ways • Helping with PR and social media • Updating records on The Hunger Project database • • Co-ordinating helpers/volunteers/cheerers on the day and helping out (e.g. registering participants) c /o JMJ Associates, 1st Floor Building 5, Chiswick Park - 566 Chiswick High Road, London W4 5YFwww.thehungerproject.org.uk Charity Registration No: 326688 The Hunger Project Empowering People - Ending Hunger What skills does the intern need to have? • Excellent English writing and verbal communication skills • Good interpersonal skills • Strong organisational skills • Interest in PR, event organisation or fundraising • Self-starter with the ability to use own initiative and work independently • Attention to detail • An interest in international development, women empowerment and The Hunger Project’s work How will the intern benefit from this internship? As a smaller charity we are able to offer you the opportunity to become fully involved in all aspects of event management, communications and fundraising giving you extensive experience for future employment. The opportunity to be involved with other projects as they come up and plenty of scope for contributing your own ideas.
