PART II
Task 9. Citing an Article from an Electronic Source. Read carefully
The typical entry for an entire online scholarly project, information database, journal, or professional site consists
of the following items
1. Title of the site (underlined)
2. Name of the editor or author of the site (if given)
3. Electronic publication information, including:
a. version number (if relevant and if not part of the title),
b. date of electronic publication or of the latest update, and
c. name of any sponsoring institution or organization.
4. Date of access and URL
If you cannot find some of this information, cite what is available but always remember the 5 key words for
reliable information: Authority, Accuracy, Objectivity, Currency and overall Quality. When you cannot find
the author, look for a sponsor institution or start with the title. If you cannot find a date write s.d., BUT always
remember it´s either no author or not date, but it sounds suspicious writing in both cases s.d.
Thus, the basic entry for an online document needs to have the following information.
Author’s Surname: ______________________________, Author’s first Name and Middle Name Initials: ___.____
Date of electronic publication/latest update (Year, Day Month) ________________________________________
Title of the document (in italics or underlined if handwritten): ______________________________________________.
Retrieved from Title of the website or Sponsoring Organization: ________________________________________
URL:http://___________________________________________________________________________________
Task 10

pattern and examples from the APA Guidelines .The citation will vary if it is a personal or professional website, or
if you have an article from an online magazine or newspapers or if you find your article on a subscription service
such as a database from your school or public library.
There are many different types of online sources. Make sure you identify and evaluate your website carefully to
determine what type of online source it is.
(To save space, examples are given in single line spacing and not double space as should be in APA format).
This is the way a generic electronic source citation should look like:
Author’s Surname, Author’s first Name and Middle Name Initials. (Date of publication). Title of the document.(in
italics or underlined if handwritten). Retrieved from Name of the Website or Sponsor Institution
URLhttp://address/filename.
Now, write down the citation of 4 internet sources in APA Style. Make sure to identify first what type of
information you are using . Read how to cite them in the APA Guidelines :
