Pass/Fail for 3rd years – hold until 2017 after new curriculum is rolled out. May be developed for all four years. Passed recommendation to dean to not allow students from other institutions for clerkships. (i.e DO school – foot in door for residency) The committee has not met yet. Bylaws change to succession of vice chair to chair. Nominations will start being collected for the people rotating off standing committees soon. Research Committee Brenda Rongish, PhD Admissions- Early Admissions just completed (first round of applicants). 48 signed letters (all from KS except 1) out of 154 applicants from Kansas. (65 interviewed). Few rural candidates, some lack of diversity, half women and half men. Starts regular admissions process in a week or two. Student promotions – some up for dismissal for failing Step I. Rigorous in finding students having issues early, to avoid high debt without a degree. Typically 600-700 student pool to choose 200 students. (Undergrad KU 60% are Kansas residents) The 2015-2016 SOM research committee is comprised of 9 faculty members and one MDPHD student member. It has reviewed the following proposals in August and September. o Searle Scholar Applications (August) – opportunities for junior investigators; KUMC can advance one candidate. Committee ranked 2 applications and provided constructive feedback for applicants. Rankings were provided to the SOM administration for a decision. o SOM Faculty Research Investigator Award Applications (mid August – September) – received one application that underwent a full committee review. Candidate was deemed excellent and was advanced and approved by the Faculty Assembly Research Committee. Award will be announced at the Oct. 27th Faculty Research Day. o SOM Bridging Fund Proposals (September) – 3 applications were reviewed and ranked by the committee; 3 reviewers were assigned per application and the full committee voted. Rankings were reported to the SOM administration for a decision. Two additional opportunities to apply for SOM bridging funds will occur in January and May. The Wichita APT Cmte held its first meeting on September 22nd with all committee members present. Dr. Sweet was elected Chair. Meetings have been scheduled for review of other candidates. Appointments, Promotion & Tenure - Wichita Donna Sweet, MD Appointments, Promotion & Tenure – Kansas City Doug Wright, PhD The joint Kansas City/Wichita APT Committees held their annual retreat in Kansas City on July 23rd, 2015. New Committee members were introduced and all Committee members were instructed on the review process, changes in various tracks. Several examples of review were performed and discussed by the Committee. The Office of Faculty Affairs and Development (FAD) has been extremely busy preparing for the reviews this fall. To date, 91 faculty registered, and 67 applicant finalizing their submission. Of these 67 final applications for consideration, 50 are from Kansas City and 12 are from Wichita. Nearly 450 letters of recommendations have been requested by the FAD staff. Thus, the FAD office should be congratulated on all their hard work to prepare for the reviews this fall. The Kansas City APT Committee is currently meeting weekly to complete review for the 2015-2016 applications. The first meeting was held on Sept. 22nd, 2015. A Vice Chair was elected on the first meeting. Dr. Ann Davis (Pediatrics) was nominated and unanimously elected to serve as Vice Chair for the 2015-2016 year. Dr. Davis will serve as Chair of the Kansas City APT committee next year. Once the reviews are complete, the joint committee of the Wichita and Kansas City campuses will convene to finalize recommendations.
