A School-Parent
Compact for Achievement is
an agreement that parents, students and
teachers develop together. It explains how
parents and teachers will work together to make
sure all our students reach or exceed gradelevel standards.
Effective compacts:
 Link to goals of the school improvement
plan
 Focus on student learning skills
 Describe how teachers will help students
develop those skills using high-quality
curriculum and instruction
 Share strategies parents can use at
home
 Explain how teachers and parents will
communicate about student progress
 Describe opportunities for parents to
volunteer, observe, and participate in the
classroom

School Goals
All of our teachers will work with students and their
families to support students’ success in meeting or
exceeding the CA Common Core State Standards.
Some of our key ways to connect our classroom
practices with the school goals will be to:
Here are some ideas of how families can support
students’ success:

Attend ELAC (English Learner Advisory
Committee) meetings

Attend 12 POWERS OF FAMILY BUSINESS
groups

Attend school-wide events and conferences

Encourage daily reading at home and the use
of IXL.com in both English and math

Discuss “What did you learn about today?” be
specific (in Math, in science)

Review homework and agenda daily with your
student
- Use academic Vocabulary, speaking in complete sentences,
and writing grounded in evidence

Encourage students to attend teacher help
sessions (before/after school & lunch time)
-Allow “think-time” to process a question and “pair-share”
to formulate a final answer before class discussion.

Check student’s backpack, Aeries Parent Portal
and agenda at least once a week.
-Check for understanding using white boards and other
means of assessing student learning.

Hold your student ACCOUNTABLE for
completing assignments (class & homework)
-Provide clear and concise directions; provide school site
resources and on-line resources

Hold your student ACCOUNTABLE for school
behavior

Request teacher/parent conferences, attend
class(es) with your student when ever possible
In ELA/ELD:
- Use sentence frames and require students to answer in
complete sentences
-Allow “think-time” to process a question and “pair-share”
to formulate a final answer before class discussion.
-Encourage continual revision as a part of formative
assessment process.
-Annotation skills and close-reading strategies to help
student comprehension of grade-level text.
In Math:
• 100% of all students will focus on 21
st
Century Learning, in order to develop an
understanding of the 4 C’s, 8 Mathematical
Practices, and CCSS Literacy Shifts 1 & 2.
• 100% of English Learners will increase a
minimum of one band level on their CELDT
