Name Introduction to Psychology Date Mr. Thadhani Psychological Disorders Project The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition (DSM-V), is used by the American Psychiatric Association to diagnose all mental disorders. The DSM-V lists the symptoms of each disorder, and when possible, relates information about the disorder in various contexts. These disorders include, but are not limited to, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, dissociative disorders, addiction disorders, psychotic disorders and learning disorders. With a partner (two members per group), your pair will select an individual (celebrity, politician, sitcom character, animated character, literary figure, etc…) and perform a character analysis, culminating with a diagnosis. Your individual must demonstrate your diagnosis by exhibiting symptoms of the disorder. Your character selection and disorder must be cleared by me. Requirements: 1. Character Analysis a. Each Student must submit a character analysis and diagnosis paper. Each paper must identify the individual being diagnosed, their symptoms, diagnosis, causes and effects of the disorder and methods of treatments. The paper must be 1 PAGE (MAXIMUM), DOUBLE-SPACED, SIZE 12 TIMES NEW ROMAN FONT, AND ONE INCH MARGINS ON ALL SIDES. Your work will be submitted via turnitin.com. 2. Presentation a. Each Pair must create a PowerPoint/Prezi or Video which introduces the individual being analyzed, the behaviors/symptoms exhibited, diagnosis, impact of the disorder on the individual (short term and long term) and methods of treatment. Your details for these components MUST BE VERY SPECIFIC. Your team must be able to explain how and why elements of the diagnosis and treatment function. Sources must be referenced in APA style at the conclusion of the presentation. EACH PRESENTATION MAY BE NO LONGER THAN 10 MINUTES. You may utilize a variety of sources to conduct your research. Your grade will be determined from both components of the requirements. Additionally, your presentation grade will be determined by your ability to be creative, organized, and accurately and comprehensively depict the disorder. Moreover, your oratorical skills will be judged on your ability to convey information in a clear manner, project your voice appropriately and answer “follow up” questions on your disorder. THIS PROJECT IS DUE ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 19th, 2013 at 11:59PM. ***The Character Analysis MUST be turned in online and a copy of the Presentation must be e-mailed to mthadhani@scarsdaleschools.org. If making a video, you must provide a link to the video (i.e. YouTube) and grant me permissions to view the video if you choose not to make it public. Additionally, if you are using a PowerPoint or Prezi, please upload it to Google Docs and grant my e-mail address (mthadhani@scarsdaleschools.org) permission to view the presentation.
