Communications Manager: Job description In our 10th anniversary year, the Clore Leadership Programme is creating a new post for an experienced Communications Manager Background By investing in individuals, we aim to strengthen leadership across a wide range of activities, and in so doing raise the game of the whole cultural sector. Since it was first established ten years ago, the Clore Leadership Programme has been a pioneer in leadership development, a source of expert advice and an inspirational example for other initiatives in the UK and beyond. Initiated by the Clore Duffield Foundation, and sustained by the Foundation's generous support, and that of many other funders, the Clore Leadership Programme is the UK's first cross-disciplinary leadership programme for the cultural and creative sector. The Programme was established as an independent organisation in 2004 and focused initially on a Fellowship Programme, aimed at shaping creative leaders through in-depth learning, and tailored as far as possible to the needs, aspirations and circumstances of between 20 and 30 individuals a year. Over the last 10 years, we have offered 259 Fellowships, and in addition: Run 40 intensive fortnight-long residential Short Courses for over 1,000 participants Delivered a Board Development programme, to strengthen governance in the cultural sector Extended our Fellowships to international participants Launched one and two-day follow-up courses (Clore Plus) Formed an association with the University of Hong Kong to create Asia’s first Advanced Cultural Leadership Programme Run one-week courses for Emerging Leaders on an annual basis since 2011 Created consortia of large-scale national cultural organisations, to support the Fellowship programme Most recently, in 2014, we have launched a new website (www.cloreleadership.org) and are planning a series of leadership development days, run in partnership with other organisations. Job Purpose To develop and implement a communications strategy for the Clore Leadership Programme which will strengthen our profile, starting in our 10th anniversary year To create linked strategies for colleagues working on programming and projects that will increase diversity, minimise barriers to attendance, deepen engagement and extend reach within the UK To support the Director in managing external relationships, particularly with funding partners, and in developing our networks To promote and disseminate the latest thinking on cultural leadership, especially drawing on the learning from the Clore Leadership Programme Responsibilities will include: Communications Managing the web-site, and developing its potential as an authoritative on-line learning forum Ensuring we use digital and social media to best advantage, enhancing the reputation and reach of the Programme Managing media and press relations Working collaboratively with other team members to sustain relationships with alumni of the Clore Fellowships and Courses Organising leadership development days, in partnership with organisations outside London, with the aim of creating greater awareness of the Programme, particularly amongst those who are currently under-represented in leadership roles Drafting articles, talks, presentations and blogs with and for the Director, Chair and other team members Partnerships and external relations Managing day-to-day relationships and communication with our partners Assisting in the development of new networks and partnerships Drafting reports and presentations for funding partners Skills required will include: Effective project management Knowledge and experience of digital communications and trends, with welldeveloped IT and digital fluency, including social media and other on-line presence Strong and accurate written communication Excellent interpersonal skills with a wide range of stakeholders Ability to work as part of a small team, under pressure and to deadlines Attention to detail Experience required in the following areas: Developing and delivering a communications strategy Developing and using contact management systems Managing budgets and suppliers Managing a website (including content management) Liaison with press and media, including experience of preparing press releases Preparing written reports and presentations Examples of key contacts: The Chair and staff team Members of the Board and its Strategic Advisory Committee Staff of the Clore Duffield Foundation and the Clore Social Leadership Programme Funders and other partners of the Programme Clore Fellows, participants (past and present) on our Short Courses, Emerging Leaders course and Board Development programme Press and media Cultural organisations and individuals, including applicants for our Programmes, speakers and mentors Suppliers, including website designers Other organisations providing support to the Programme General public Terms and conditions The Communications Manager is a newly-created post and is funded by Arts Council England’s Developing Resilient Leadership commissioned grant, for an 18-month period. The post will be based in the Clore Leadership Programme offices at Somerset House, Strand, London WC2 The post-holder will be a member of a team of 7 mainly full-time employees who are based at the Clore Leadership Programme’s offices at Somerset House in London. The other members of the team are Sharon Armstrong-Williams who manages the Fellowships; Fiona Cameron, who manages our courses and events; Director Sue Hoyle; Rebecca Laschetti, our Finance Manager; Maria Schweppe our Administrator; and Alisha Whittington, who is responsible for administration of courses and Board Development, and for programming and co-ordinating the Emerging Leaders courses. Sir John Tusa is part-time Chair of the Programme and William Warrener currently works two days a week as Projects Administrator. The Communications Manager will be line-managed by Sue Hoyle and work closely with other team members. The Communications Manager will work 40 hours a week (including lunch breaks), normally within office hours, but may be required to attend evening or weekend events in addition to normal hours as necessary. Salary £38,000 - £40,000 p.a.
