Reports to (job title) Director of Museums and Galleries Grade1 12 DBS Requirement Politically Restricted Post Standard: No No Enhanced: No JOB PURPOSE To manage and motivate the team(s) to achieve financial and service targets contributing to corporate objectives and meeting customer needs. To be the strategic lead for business development, marketing, visitor services and operations across Museums & Galleries ensuring high quality service delivery and achievement of income targets. To lead on financial and performance management for Museums & Galleries ensuring the service is performing against agreed targets. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Ensure that staff are effectively recruited, have development opportunities, and are supported and supervised so that they are able to meet objectives and targets Identify work programmes and performance measures for staff to achieve service targets and contribute to corporate objectives Review and monitor performance to ensure performance standards are being met and take appropriate action where they are not being met to ensure continuous improvement Monitor service budgets to ensure compliance with financial processes so that spending stays within the allocated budget 1 Page 1 of 5 JD Template October 2013 Ensure that feedback from customers is sought so that services are delivered to excellent standards of customer care and continuous service improvements are made Develop effective working relationships both internally and externally to ensure good communication and identify opportunities for joint working Ensure the team operates in a commercial way to achieve value for money and optimise financial return Ensure the team works in a safe and legal way to comply with regulatory and legislative requirements To be the strategic lead for business development and commercial activity, developing strategies for new income streams, pursuing new avenues of sustainable revenue generation and maximising the profitability of existing income streams to deliver a year on year increase in income To oversee the development of the retail offer which engages with and inspires visitors reflecting and reinforcing the personality, values and core purpose of The Beaney and Canterbury Museums and Galleries and increasing income To oversee the development of The Beaney Café to increase income generation and offer an excellent visitor experience. To be the strategic lead for marketing and audience development seeking to retain existing and attract new audiences to the Museums and Galleries To oversee the management of Visitor Experience and Visitor Services staff and be responsible for staff development and training to ensure a high quality offer. To be responsible for the delivery and development of the Visitor Information Centre at The Beaney, ensuring excellent visitor service. To champion the development of learning across Museums and Galleries to improve the learning offer to residents and visitors To oversee the operational management of Museums & Galleries ensuring the delivery of a high quality offer To contribute to fundraising applications and to identify and pursue sponsorship opportunities. To manage, monitor and analyse performance data for Museums and Galleries proposing ways to improve performance where appropriate, reporting progress of services against the council’s intended outcomes. To manage, monitor and analyse budgets for Museums & Galleries ensuring that effective cost control mechanisms are in place, that revenue is maximised and that income targets are met. To forge strategic partnerships with external organisations across the business, attractions, heritage and tourism sectors to further strategic objectives and support a sustainable service. To be responsible for compliance with commercial health legislation. To be the appointed licensee for The Beaney. . To deputise for the Director of Museums and Galleries in their absence assuming responsibility for all Museums and Galleries matters as appropriate. To be a member of the Museums and Galleries Senior Management Team, the Museums and Galleries Programming Group and the Business Development Group. Special Circumstances. The Museum is a 7 day operation and regularly hosts events outside its core hours. Flexibility to work on weekends, public holidays and before/after public hours is therefore required. Educated to degree level or equivalent.
