RISE’s CityTech Program for Smart Urban Technologies RISE has a passion for the intersection of technology and the urban environment and the emerging smart city. The smart city is no longer a dream. It is here. RISE would welcome an opportunity to lead you through this new and exciting technology space. RISE is different. We employ both urban planners and technologists who work side by side and have a holistic view of how the built environment and urban technology intersect. Although the wired, smart city is in its infancy, urban technology adoption is swift. Recall the rapid adoption of the Internet in the late 20th century and you can imagine how rapidly technology is evolving on the new urban frontier. Who would have thought 50 or even 15 years ago that one would have an entire encyclopedia, a complete music collection and even be able to purchase a movie ticket directly from a 2.5” x 5” device in your purse or pocket? This exponential explosion in technology is about to hit our cities. RISE Solutions Group 240-258-8870 www.RISESG.com The World Health Organization states by 2030 6 out of every 10 people will live in a city, and by 2050, this proportion will increase to 7 out of 10 people. Urban planners and decision makers will be called upon to provide solutions to support these growing city populations while improving overall quality of life. Many of these solutions will come from information technology. RISE is working with a variety urban technology solutions that will change and make communities, towns, cities more efficient and prosperous. RISE works with city leaders and developers to educate, plan and deploy new urban technologies. Using many of the same technology platforms and strategies employed to reinvent businesses in the late 20th century, RISE assists towns, cities and regions with applications and solutions to address urban problems. RISE will not only consult with you on and install new urban technologies; we educate urban professionals about how to apply them. We are witnessing a momentous shift from a rural based society to an urbanized one. It may be time that the land use and community planner becomes better acquainted with hardware, software and internet solutions. So how does a professional trained in the social sciences quickly become conversant with the rapidly changing toolkit of emerging urban, internet-based, information technologies? Moreover, how do professionals trained in land use planning make informed decisions about how technology should be applied in a controlled manner to our built environments? RISE argues that it starts with city leaders, urban planners, other land use professionals and developers. Planners quickly will have to become familiar with and proficient in using concepts such as big data, cloud sourcing, Bluetooth retailing, urban probes and sensors and smart utilities. These will empower them to forecast and then plan the future of a community. As comprehensive plans move from static documents to more fluid, computeraccessed ones, the manner in which urban planners and policy makers consider and introduce information technology will need to evolve. Questions such as how RISE Solutions Group 240-258-8870 www.RISESG.com allowing autonomous vehicles in a community could impact surface parking lots, parking ratios and transportation planning is an example of what we can help you explore. RISE has both technologists and urban planners on staff who fully grasp how technology is being applied to: Urban Planning Urban Design Transportation Construction Housing Recreation Environmental Preservation Utilities RISE understands how these technologies function and how to deploy them to make your community healthier and safer and reduce your community’s costs. RISE has been assessing emerging urban technologies for more than a decade and offers as: 1. A full inventory of emerging urban technologies and the know-how to integrate them for your unique needs. 2.
