Title of Work/Text Author Text Type Adidas Football Video (Advertisement) Francesco (Fra30774) Blog Article Brad Philpot Book (Textbook) Impossible is Nothing (Lionel Messi & David Beckham) Adidas – Impossible is Nothing: The Beginning English Language and Literature for the IB Diploma TURN OVER Further Oral Activity reflection School name: (reverse) American International School Of Guangzhou Aims for the task—In a well-developed paragraph, state your goal(s) and what you want the class to learn from your oral activity. The main goal for my FOA presentation was to investigate how advertisements can determine the brand image of a company. I wanted the class to learn how Adidas used advertising techniques to achieve its goal – create a positive brand image. Also, I wanted the class to see the actual advertisements of Adidas and see the use of slogan – “Impossible is Nothing”. After listening to my presentation, I hope the class can see that advertisements are one of the most important factors of determining brand image. The most important lesson of my presentation is that Adidas’ “Impossible is Nothing” campaign actually helped Adidas’ sales in US and created positive brand image, in which Adidas uses celebrities, slogan, eye-catching design, and emotion. Reflection: In the space below, write a well-developed essay that integrates the elements listed below. Be sure to include specific examples from your FOA to support your points. DUE within one week of viewing your FOA video. 1. Briefly summarize your oral activity in terms of the topic, thesis, and the activity you chose. 2. Comment on the strengths and weaknesses of your performance. 3. Comment on how successful you were in achieving your goal(s) (i.e. learning outcomes) in your FOA. 4. If you had to give your FOA again, would you do anything differently in terms of how you would prepare for it, how you would structure or organize the oral activity, or how you would perform or deliver it? ---------------------------------I gave a PowerPoint presentation on the effect of advertisement on brand image. I started the presentation by showing two actual advertisements from Adidas. The advertisements shown in my presentation are a part of “Impossible is Nothing” campaign from Adidas from 2004 to 2007. The first video has famous soccer player Lionel Messi. He briefly tells the audience that he had a growth hormone problem. He continues on and says that being small actually helped him. The main message of this advertisement is that “sometimes bad things can turn out good”. The second video features David Beckham. He tells the audience that he had hard time after he got sent off during a match against Argentina in 1998. The critics changed after Beckham rescued England by scoring a free kick goal against Greece in 2002. The main message of this video was “you will go through tough times, it’s about coming through that”. After I showed these two videos, in order to catch the audience’s attention, I asked the audience about the similarities of the video. The similarity between the two advertisements is that they share the same theme – Impossible is Nothing. I briefly stated that Muhammad Ali is the one who came up with “Impossible is Nothing”. Then, I related this to the very first “Impossible is Nothing” themed advertisement from Adidas which was released in 1974. After that, I explained why Adidas started this campaign in 2004 by showing real data. Then, I showed the outcomes of “Impossible is Nothing” campaign with statistics. After showing the “before and after” of the campaign, I moved on to show how the brand image of Adidas changed and what people think of when they hear Adidas (I also defined the term “brand image”). Lastly, I listed the advertising techniques used by this campaign and explained each of them. I concluded the presentation by stating that Adidas used celebrities, slogan, eye-catching design, and emotions to change its brand image, and because of this, one can know that advertisements are a crucial factor of determining the brand image. I had some strength in my presentation. Throughout my presentation, I spoke with a loud and clear voice. I think most of my points were straightforward too. The analysis of the advertisements was done well by referencing the actual textbook for IB English Language and Literature. I think I did a good job in explaining the “before and after” of Adidas in US. Also, the conclusion really summed up my whole presentation. Some of the weaknesses of my presentation would include: lack of enthusiasm, bad pronunciations, and the lack of preparation. For most part of my presentation, I think I sounded dull. I did have clear and loud voice, but it did not sound enthusiastic. Also, I had some technical difficulties during the presentation. My PowerPoint quit and I had to reopen it. When reopening, the PowerPoint program showed the auto-save, which was not the right presentation. I was bewildered when I found out that I was giving a presentation with a wrong PowerPoint. This situation made me nervous and this made me to repeat some words that I already said and I had trouble with some pronunciations of some words that I could have said better when I’m not panicked. Also, because of the nervousness, I had lots of fillers and could not really talk because my mouth became dry. This really made my presentation worse. I think I did fairly a good job on meeting my goals that I mentioned earlier. As I stated before, my strength for this presentation was straightforward points. I was able to show the audience why the campaign started and the result of the campaign. The actual stats helped the audience to understand what kind of situation Adidas was in and made my presentation credible. I was able to show what kind of advertising techniques that Adidas uses in their “Impossible is Nothing” campaign. My conclusion helped the class to understand to see that advertisements are decisive in determining the brand image. If I ever had a chance to do this presentation again, I would definitely prepare more for the presentation. I would memorize some of the important bits of my presentation so that I can have eye contact with the audience. The lack of preparation was clearly shown in the beginning, where I struggled. I only rehearsed once before the actual presentation, but if the chance were given, I would rehearse about five times so that I know my lines.
