Edwin Teaching and Learning Commitment Form 2014-2015 SY
District Superintendent:
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, in partnership with Thinkgate, is excited to bring you
Edwin Teaching and Learning (ET&L). It is rare in education that we can have curriculum materials, curriculum
mapping, unit planning, lesson planning, resources, assessments, and our frameworks all in one place. With district
access to the ET&L tool, your faculty can create assessments with MCAS released items, use Model Curriculum
Units and Lesson Plans, and also access PBS Learning Media content – all aligned to the MA Curriculum
Frameworks including CVTE. ET&L also has the Competency Tracking system for CVTE, specifically designed by
and for Massachusetts educators.
The Thinkgate Instructional Improvement System, Edwin Teaching and Learning, is available to RTTT districts, at
no cost, during the RTTT grant period (SY 2013-2014/SY 2014-2015). Thereafter, all districts will pay a perstudent price based upon how many districts adopt the Thinkgate Instructional Improvement System. Important to
note: the state is exploring other avenues to subsidized district use of ET&L beyond the grant period. Use of the
Thinkgate system is voluntary; however, the state can only subsidize districts that are actively using the tool. In
order to do this we need the following commitment form completed and submitted by the June 15, 2014.
Please fill out the information in this commitment letter form and return to edwint&l@doe.mass.edu for access to
the Edwin Teaching and Learning Instructional Improvement System.

The plan for getting student, teacher, and course information into ET&L is based upon districts providing this information to ESE through SIF (the
Schools Interoperability Framework). To take full advantage of ET&L's capabilities districts will need to implement SIF, which will make it possible
for data to refresh in near real-time, so class rosters and teacher data remain current. Districts that are implementing ET&L must have completed,
or be nearing completion of their SIF implementation. To find your ESE contact, go to this link: http://www.doe.mass.edu/infoservices/data/fts.html

The training is designed to familiarize your key district personnel with the Edwin Teaching and Learning platform. These are the people who may
want to try this tool in their own classrooms or they could be the people who will train your other staff members on the use of the tool going forward.
Up to 10 staff may be included in Edwin Teaching & Learning train-the-trainer webinar sessions.
Each cohort will meet four times online. In between the four scheduled webinars, trainees will have computer based modules to complete through
Thinkgate University. The webinars are each 1-hour in duration and all are scheduled at noon on their respective dates. Webinars are as follows:
Orientation Webinar, Learning Check Point 1 Webinar, Learning Check Point 2 Webinar, and The Wrap-Up Webinar. The online modules can be
