Student Government Association 2014-2015 leadership Meeting Minutes for November 13, 2014 Taylor room 311 Beginning 5:00 pm Passing Bills: Contingency Bills o Financial Management Association (FMA) Therefore, be it resolved by the Student Senate of James Madison University, that the Student Government Association allocate $2,100 in contingency funds to assist with supplies and speaker fees for the Speaker Series, and assist with Travel, Hotel and Conference fees for the Finance Leaders’ Conference. Resolutions o Mark Warner Therefore, be it resolved by the Student Senate of James Madison University, that the Student Government Association wishes to congratulate Senator Mark Warner on his reelection to the United States Senate and thank him for his dedication to furthering the successes of higher education; and be it further resolved, that the Student Government Association would like to continue to develop its relationship with the elected officials of The Commonwealth of Virginia, particularly Senator Mark Warner, in furthering the mission of higher education and supporting those involved in the higher education system. Debate This resolution is passed by unanimous consent by the Executive Council. o Bob Goodlatte Therefore, be it resolved by the Student Senate of James Madison University that the Student Government Association wishes to congratulate Congressman Bob Goodlatte on his reelection to the United States House of Representatives and thank him for his dedication to furthering the successes of higher education; and Be it further resolved, that the Student Government Association would like to continue to develop its relationship with the elected officials of The Commonwealth of Virginia, particularly Congressman Bob Goodlatte, in furthering the mission of higher education, James Madison University, and supporting those involved in the higher education system. Debate This resolution is called to a vote and passed with a vote of 2-1-0 by the Executive Council. o Harrisonburg City Council Student Government Association 2014-2015 leadership Meeting Minutes for November 13, 2014 Taylor room 311 Beginning 5:00 pm Therefore, be it resolved by the Student Senate of James Madison University, that the James Madison University Student Government Association will partner with Student Greater Madison in an effort to cultivate a stronger relationship between the Harrisonburg and James Madison University communities with the creation of the Friendly Neighbors Coalition. This partnership and coalition will exist to bridge communication and create an environment conducive for constructive, proactive civic discourse between civic leaders and residents within the city and student leaders, faculty and administration of James Madison University. And be it further resolved that, the James Madison University Student Government Association will promote responsible and respectful behavior within the broader James Madison University community, as the James Madison University Student Government Association wishes to have a stronger presence within the Harrisonburg Community. Legislative Action Chair: Josh Humphries Working on smoking on campus. Going to city council to deliver resolution on December 9th. Writing letter to electoral board. Emailing state board of elections to try to be a part of the conversation about the language on electoral documents. Looking into friendly amendments on the noise ordinance.
