Page 1 of 4 TERMS OF REFERENCE Conflict Management Consultancy DURATION OF CONSULTANCY ASSIGNMENT: The consultancy will take place within 1st April to 30th June 2016, and the actual number of days worked will be determined by the consultant as to how long it would take to complete the assignment. LOCATION: Consultant will work from home and he/she will be required to travel to Copenhagen, Denmark to conduct training programmes. Travel and Daily Subsistence Allowance will be paid as applicable. START DATE: 1 April 2016 REPORTING TO: Chief HRC, Rudolf Messinger, UNICEF Supply Division, Copenhagen, Denmark JUSTIFICATION AND BACKGROUND OF THE ASSIGNMENT: Follow-up to Global Staff Survey (survey administered to all staff in UNICEF) has been a priority for Supply Division management for the past months to address concerns that came out of the survey. In early 2015, Supply Division had extensive consultations within the Division on the follow-up of the Global Staff Survey results. Based on a careful analysis of the GSS report, a reflection on staff comments as well as consultations with management, it was agreed that Supply Division will organize a capacity development programme for staff in the areas of conflict management in the workplace and how to conduct difficult conversations. OBJECTIVE AND TARGETS: The key objective of this consultancy assignment is to support building the capacity of the Supply Division staff on how to conduct difficult conversations and managing workplace related conflicts SCOPE OF WORK (WORK ASSIGNMENT): The assignment will entail conducting interviews of randomly selected staff members to understand better the magnitude of the issues related to conflict management and difficult conversations in Supply Division. Based on the findings and themes that emerged, the consultant will develop a basic practical reference material which can be easily used by staff to guide them on how to deal with workplace conflicts, and how to conduct difficult conversations. The consultant will conduct a half-day guidance session for mangers on conflict prevention & resolution as well as a half day guidance session to all staff on conducting difficult conversations. In addition, a two day train the trainer programme, will be conducted for selected staff on managing conflicts and conducting difficult conversations to build internal to organize and deliver similar training programmes as needed in the future. KEY DELIVERABLES: Page 2 of 4 Design and deliver the following training programmes: -Half a day workshop for managers on managing workplace conflicts and conducting difficult conversations; -Half a day workshop for staff on managing workplace conflict; -Two day TOT on managing workplace conflicts and difficult conversations for staff to enable Supply Division build internal capacity to roll out this learning across the division. Develop a training booklet for SD staff which will be used as reference material for managing workplace related conflicts and conduct difficult conversations between supervisors and supervisees and between peers; Develop a training manual for TOT on managing workplace conflicts and difficult conversations for staff KEY COMPETENCIES, TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Education: Advanced University degree in social sciences, conflict management, human resources or other related field is required. Additional relevant professional training in conflict resolution would be an asset. Work Experience: A minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience in designing and developing capacity development programme. Extensive experience in developing and delivering various learning packages for the NGOS/UN or private sector companies, Excellent technical skills in facilitation and designing training modules; Hands on experience in managing and delivering conflict resolutions in the workplace for diverse team.
