GENERAL INFORMATION
RESIDENT: A resident for the purpose of this policy is
defined as an individual currently owning property or residing
within the corporate limits of Dakota City, Dakota County,
Nebraska.
RESIDENT- NURSING HOME: A person may be considered a Dakota City resident if they have owned real estate
in the corporate limits of Dakota City for two years or lived
within the corporate limits of Dakota City for a period of five
years immediately preceding being moved to a nursing home
facility.

FLAT MEMORIALS: No height memorial stones. Flat
memorials must be flush with the ground.
NORMAL WORK WEEK: Normal work week is Monday
through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
WEEKEND: Weekends begin at 4:00 p.m. Friday
through 8:00 a.m. Monday morning.

Rules & Regulations
*No more than one burial to a lot, cremation, or vault. There
must be a vault for every burial.
*Vases that are manufactured with the stone can be left up
May 1st through October 1st.
*All cut flowers and their containers and all artificial decorations
will be removed from grave sites on the 1st & 3rd Fridays of
each month. Anyone wishing to preserve decorations is asked
to remove them before scheduled pick ups. Decorations
removed from grave site WILL BE DESTROYED.
*Flowers and decorations placed during the Memorial Day
weekend will remain for a period of 10 days. Upon the 11th
day, all flowers and/or decorations, except those in permanent
vases, shall be removed and disposed of.
*There should be proper maintenance of stones placed on
graves. If the stone is tipping, sinking, broken or needs
leveling, this cost will be the owners. The judgement of the
disrepair will be the responsibility of the Cemetery Board.
*No shrubs, bushes, trees, thorny plants or perennials will be
planted in the City Cemetery. These will be removed without
notice. Do not place fencing around any grave site. Grass will
be the only covering on the grave. Maintenance will be done
by riding lawn mowers.
*There shall be no altering, decorating, or defacing city-owned
property in the City Cemetery. This applies to any tree, shrub,
or city-owned structure within the City Cemetery.
*Theft of flowers, decorations, or memorials on cemetery
grounds will not be tolerated. Offenders will be prosecuted.
*No decorations on gravesites over three feet high will be
permitted.
RESALE:
If you resale a space or lot you must record the transaction at
the Dakota City City Hall. The old deed should be brought to
the office and a new deed will be issued in the name of the
new owner. If the transfer, whether by sale or inherited, is not
recorded and on file, the city is not obligated to recognize the
claim without the proper documents being in order.
MEMORIAL STONES
*ONLY ONE memorial stone stating the name of the interred is
permitted on a grave space. Exception: A Veteran’s stone
with the same name as the original memorial stone may be
placed at the foot of the grave as a companion stone.
*Temporary memorial stones are allowed for six months
following the interment.
*Vases are limited to two per memorial stone.
*Memorial stones in the Northeast Addition of the cemetery
must be flat memorial stones.
* Memorial stones must not exceed the size of the lot.
*Home-made stones are not to be placed on graves.
WORK REQUIREMENTS
*Memorial stones must be installed by a professional
contractor.
*NO WORK may be done on cemetery grounds unless
approved by the cemetery sexton.
*48 hours notice is required for stones to be set, reset, or
repaired on cemetery grounds.
*No stones may be set, reset, removed, or repaired after
normal business hours of the City unless approved by the
cemetery sexton.
*No unauthorized driving on cemetery grounds. Permission to
drive in cemetery MUST be obtained PRIOR to work being
done on cemetery grounds.
*No stones may be reset or repaired by private persons unless
approved by the cemetery sexton.
VIOLATIONS
Any such violation of this Policy shall be punishable by a
fine not exceeding $100.00. Each day that a violation
continues shall constitutes a separate violation.
