ROLE AND PURPOSE: The Elementary Mathematics Coordinator provides leadership and coordination to ensure an
aligned and articulated instructional program in Mathematics for grades Pre-K through 6th grade. Additionally, the coordinator
provides leadership in the design, implementation and support of state and locally mandated curriculum. The coordinator
organizes professional development and implementation of mathematics programs. He/she acts as a resource person to other
educational personnel and the community.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
 Minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited institution
 Professional Mid-management or Supervisor Certification issued by the Texas Education Agency (preferred)
 Valid Texas teacher’s certificate with specialization in mathematics (preferred)
Experience:
 Minimum of five years teaching experience
 Three years of district level administrative experience in mathematics
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
I.
INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
A. Coordinate curriculum development, curriculum assessments, professional development activities and campus
support in mathematics for teachers in grades Pre K – 6.
B. Implement a systematic and sustained approach to professional development
C. Direct the evaluation and revision of the Pre K – 6 mathematics curriculum
D. Collaborate with the Secondary Mathematics Coordinator to ensure vertical alignment of curriculum and
instructional programs
E. Apply research-based and current educational and instructional strategies to the professional development
design process for Pre K – 6 mathematics teachers
F. Obtain and use data to examine curriculum and instructional program effectiveness and design, implement and
measure the effectiveness of program interventions
G. Implement and evaluate actions designed to meet and exceed the district instructional goals in Pre K-6
mathematics
H. Support campuses in hiring mathematics teachers
I. Coordinate content area textbook or instructional materials adoption and implementation
J. Collaborate with principals to plan for and monitor the implementation of the district curriculum and address
professional development needs related to the effective mathematics instruction
K. Work collaboratively with principals, team leaders and teachers to ensure that instructional programs and
services are coordinated at the school level and are administered uniformly and equitably
L. Work with principals and team leaders to plan for and monitor the implementation of the district curriculum.
M. Oversee the development of new courses
N. Research, plan, propose, implement, and evaluate new programs
O. Write grant proposals, implement and monitor compliance of grants as needed
P. Apply sound research-based principles and practices to support decision making and departmental goals and
actions
II.
SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE
A. Collaborate with core content coordinators and directors to ensure alignment of instruction throughout the
district
B. Create a collegial and team oriented atmosphere within the mathematics department
C. Participate in the district-level decision making processes to establish and review the goals and objectives of
the Curriculum and Instruction department as it relates to the Strategic Plan
III.
SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT
A. Monitor and observe curriculum implementation in classrooms and offers insight for the
enhancement of teaching
B. Demonstrate and model effective instructional practices for principals, instructional coaches
and classroom teachers
C. Establish and support professional learning communities
D. Provide instructional support for inclusion and ELL differentiated instruction
E. Demonstrate conflict resolution skills with staff, colleagues, administrators and teachers
F. Work with principals and teachers to analyze and monitor achievement data
G. Provides assistance to schools to support the design and implementation of intervention programs that address
the K-6 Mathematics TEKS
H. Work collaboratively with campus administration in the achievement of district and campus
goals
IV.
ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
A. Prepare, monitor and maintain department budgets and ensure that funds are managed prudently
B. Review school budgets with coordination between principals and executive directors
C. Serve as resource person to building principals regarding program budgets
D. Budget for and provide resources, including professional and instructional materials, technology, hands-on
materials, classroom libraries and tutorial materials

SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS
A. Facilitate communication among teachers of the same disciplines and/or courses
B. Work productively with colleagues, parents, and community members
C. Articulates the district’s mission, instructional philosophy and curriculum implementation strategies to the
community
VII.
PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
A. Actively seek to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth
experiences
B. Disseminate current development in instruction, learning theory, and cognitive research through reading
professional literature and participating in professional development
VIII.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Supervise, train and evaluate the performance of instructional specialists
IX.
MISCELLANEOUS
A. Demonstrate a willingness to examine and implement change, as appropriate.
B. Use current technology for instruction and management purposes
C. Perform other duties and functions as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer
