Studies:
Ph.D. in Language Education from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. My
dissertation on "Cognitive processes in discourse synthesis", in which I investigated
the cognitive processes underlying college majors' performance of an authentic
discourse synthesis task – a literature review, yielded a model of these processes, and
a taxonomy of intertextual processing strategies, which represent distinct discourse
synthesis processes.
M.A. in Theoretical Linguistics from Southern Illinois University in the USA. BA in
English Linguistics & Literature and Teaching Certificate from the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem.
Teaching:
high school (for 6 years), Tel Aviv University, the Open University, the College for
the Retraining of Academicians, Kibbutzim College of Education (The English
Department, The Center of Academic Literacy, and The M.Ed. programs in
“Multidisciplinary Studies in the Humanities”, “Technology in Education”, “M.
Teach” and “Educational Management”); and Levinsky College of Education (the
M.Ed. programs in “Language education in a multicultural society” and “Learning
and instruction”), and the MOFET Institute, The School of Professional Development:
Courses in English linguistics, SLA, research into reading and writing processes,
English teaching methodology, etc., as well as seminar courses in academic literacy in
English and Hebrew. I’ve also been advising graduate students and faculty on their
theses/dissertations at both institutions.
I coordinated the EFL Reading Department at Kibbutzim College and conducted a
staff development program there from 1993 to 1998. I have also served on several ad
hoc committees at the college, and helped set up The Center of Academic Literacy, as
well as being instrumental in the admission to the college of hard of hearing and deaf
students, which I have been individually tutoring.
Research interests:
Interdisciplinary issues of learning, cognition, and reading and writing processes in
L1 and L2.
At present I’m involved in an on-going project in the Faculty of Education at
Kibbutzim College of Education for the purpose of promoting students’ academic
literacy, and chairing the 3rd International conference of IFAW – the Israeli Forum for
Academic Writing, at the MOFET Institute to take place in June, 2016. I am an active
member of several professional organizations in Israel and abroad, and otherwise a
gym and nutrition freak, and a great fan of country music.
