ATTENTION CAR RIDERS!
We want to be very consistent in our car rider procedures as we move into such a busy
time of the year. Beginning Tuesday, January 21st, you must have the BLUE official
Welch Elementary School car rider sign posted in the front window of your car.
If you do not have your sign, you will need to park your car and show ID in the front
office before your child will be released to you. This is for the child’s safety. Please
review the procedures outlined on our website or you can request a hard copy from our
front office. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Fever- Children with a fever of 100.4 should stay home until there is no fever for 24
hours without any fever reducing medication.
Diarrhea and vomiting. One event of watery diarrhea or more than one event of
vomiting are reasons to keep your child at home. If vomiting or diarrhea continues or
your child also has a fever, rash or weakness, call your doctor.
Persistent coughing. If your child’s cough is worse than you would expect with a
cold, keep him at home. If he has a hard time breathing or has a fever, call your
doctor.
Sore Throat. If your child has a sore throat and fever, or a severe sore throat without
fever, he should stay at home. Call your doctor if there is a quick onset of fever and
sore throat without cold symptoms.
Pinkeye/conjunctivitis. If your child’s eye is red with cloudy or yellow drainage, he
should stay at home until symptoms are gone and call your doctor for treatment.
Persistent ear pain. Your child should stay at home if he has a lot of ear pain. Call
your doctor for treatment.
Stomach ache. If your child complains of a stomach ache, especially if he says it
hurts to move and does not want to eat, he should stay at home and call your doctor.
This should help when trying to decide if your child should come to school.
Please feel free to call Heather Espy if you have any questions.
DO NOT drop off students before 7:30am. We do not
have the appropriate supervision for the students until
that time.
**Students may NOT be checked out after 2:00pm due to
preparation for dismissal. This will ensure the safety of
all students.
**Transportation changes must be made in writing
and before 1:30pm daily. We do NOT take changes
by email, phone, or fax.
**Absences: Please send a note with your student the day they
return after being absent from school. Absences are NOT
excused until the school receives a note in writing stating the
reason your child was absent. Please put your child’s first & last
name on the note.
Student lunches cost $2.35. Adult Lunches are $2.75. If you
would like to eat lunch with your child, please check in at the
front office before going to the cafeteria. Please be prepared to
show your ID to confirm you are on the child’s emergency card.
This ensures all of our students are safe.
PARENTS: any time you send a check to school for payment,
please make sure your phone number, your child’s name and
the purpose of the check is written on the check. Also, when
turning in fundraiser money, please include your child’s
name in the memo and make sure the check writer’s phone
number is on any checks you receive. In the event a check is
returned to us, we use Checkredi (www.checkredi.com
1.800.239.1222) for collection.

Responsibility Means Accepting Consequences
A responsible child understands that his actions have consequences. Parents can help children take responsibility
for what they do by not letting children “off the hook.”
Don’t let your child make excuses for his behavior. Talk about how choices have consequences, and let him “suffer”
the consequences of his actions. If he forgets his homework at home, for example, don’t offer to drive it to school
for him. Say, “I’m sorry, but actions have consequences. You’ll have to tell your teacher you left it at home.”
Also: Set consequences at home for inappropriate behavior at school. A child who gets in a fight at school may not
be allowed to play with friends that week.
Tests of an Effective Consequence
To be effective, a consequence should meet three criteria:
1. Is it logically related to the misbehavior? (Children need to see the connection.)
2. Is its enforcement respectful of your child?
3. Is it reasonable to you and your child?
As with all discipline techniques, the consequences must be consistently enforced—every time—or they accomplish
little.
