The College of William & Mary Office of Undergraduate Admission 2016 Spring Intern Application Internship Description: This spring the Admission Office will sponsor a small number of undergraduate interns who will have the opportunity to work as team members on the On Campus Programming (OCP) committee planning our marquis event for admitted students (taking place April 16th, 2016). More specifically, interns will play an integral role in planning and coordinating the Day for Admitted Students (DFAS) campus activity fair (an event showcasing the variety of student organizations in which students can engage at W&M). Candidates selected will also recruit, train and manage over 200 student volunteers who will serve as logistical support during DFAS and have a role in managing the admitted student Facebook environment. Interns will also provide support for additional yield programs including Escape and Monroe Scholars Weekend. Interns will actively engage the entire campus community with designing creative methods to welcome admitted students to campus. Lastly, the intern team will craft and maintain an informational blog for admitted students writing posts about a variety of topics from choosing a college, to enjoying those last few months of senior year. Those chosen will serve as the formal Ambassadors from the current student body to the newly admitted students. Prospective interns should be “initiative-takers,” able to demonstrate their ability to work autonomously, enjoy interacting with all types of people, have strong communicative skills (both verbal and written), and have an interest in event planning. The experience will include opportunities to learn more about the nuances of recruiting and selecting students at a highly selective institution and interns may have a chance to engage with office staff members on other projects as interest and opportunities dictate. Candidates should have approximately 5 hours a week to dedicate to the internship experience and must be available April 15th, 16th, and 17th. This internship is unpaid but will provide invaluable hands-on professional experience, an opportunity to expand upon a variety of transferable skills and hopefully a whole lot of fun.
