Methodology
Recall: Remind the children of the type of nouns they have
learned, proper and common nouns. Ask the students to give
examples of nouns. Discuss how all these words include names
of all the people we know, all of the places we have been to,
and all of the things or objects we have. Give concrete
examples, such as, “A teacher is person, so I must be a noun. A
school is a place, so our school must be a noun. This table is a
thing, so the table must be a noun too.”
Activity plan: Play the Noun Game. Have students sit on their
chairs/on the mat. Give each student an alphabet. Call out any
alphabet and give instructions “give me a person name with
letter ‘a’/ give me a name of a place with letter ‘b’.” Student
with that alphabet card can provide the names. Make a list of
these words on the board.
Make a chart with 3 columns on the board, labeled ‘People’,
‘Places’ and ‘Things’. Ask the children to sort this name list into
the above mentioned categories.

take it to do a Noun Hunt and write them in the correct column

Writing Literacy: Play “Pass the Pencil” Have the kids sit in a
circle; one student should be in the middle with his/her closed.
Pass a pencil to students outside of the circle and stop when
the student in the middle claps his/her hands. The student in
the middle will then choose a category (name, place or thing).
The student left holding the pencil he/she has to say 1 noun.
If he/she succeeds, the person in the center stays there. If
the person can’t come up with the noun, they then switch
places with the person in the center of the circle. (AT)
