PURPOSE: To undertake responsibilities for the development of the Universities Market Public Relations and Corporate Communications Strategy; to manage the public profile, media relations, corporate communication internally as well as externally and promote the news and activities of the University to external audience PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES: To help develop and to implement the Marketing Strategy of the University, in particular the Public Relations and Corporate Communications strategy; To develop and be responsible for the Public Relations policy and its implementation, such policy would cover the positive promotion of the university in an ethically and social framework, including the protocols for engagement in external agencies To oversea the university engagement with external agencies, developing a framework to promote such engagement but within agreed ethically boundaries To be responsible for official communications with external agencies, and tocoordinate public relations activities across the university To promote the universities social contribution and corporate profile via appropriate external communications; To manage and assist with the web site, ensuring that it is marketing focused and reflects the promotional and recruitment requirements of the university; To implement and coordinate university’s social media strategy, and the image and interests of university in social web sites; To coordinate and develop appropriate information for publication in a range of media, provide media members with press releases; To provide reports on the Public Relations and Engagement activities to inform the development of the strategies and policies of the university; To provide as appropriate reports for the University of Westminster on the public profile of WIUT and its engagement with the University of Westminster To help develop the universities internal communication processes so that all colleagues are aware of the successes of the university and help promote such successes in their own communities; To manage the relationship with the media, ensuring that the best interests of the university are represented. To manage the staff profile, media relations, corporate communication internally as well as externally and promote the news and activities of the University to external audience using different ways: WIUT website, WIUT fan page, other external sites, newspapers and magazines; To contribute to the general activities of the marketing team; To carry out other duties as required in consultation with the Marketing Manager / 1st Deputy Rector Academic. Context of the post The university is a high profile institution and requires close and careful management in external arenas. The university will attract attention and will need to promote its interests in a range of areas and with a number of external agencies. There is a need for a high level corporate management of the relationship with such agencies. The influence of the media is growing and will be an important source of promotion and distraction for the University. The post is an important contribution to the management of the external affairs of the University one of whose functions is to represent, promote and manage the external face of the University.In addition the post also covers internal communications, an area that can influence and be influenced by external events. Person specification. The person appointed to this post should be able to demonstrate the following essential elements: Qualifications Have a first degree, preferably in a subject area that relates to the management of corporate/external affairs Be competent in English to a high standard to the equivalent of an Academic post, fluency is important both oral and written. Be competent in Uzbek and Russian, with excellent oral and written skills in these languages Experience Experience of external relations either for a similar organisation or related organisation. Evidence of communication training and media training Evidence of some research applications Aptitudes, Abilities, Skills and Personal Qualities Innovative, with practical skills in publications An ability to think strategically and creatively, able to adopt ideas and to produce practical results. A well developed ability to manage difficult situations, with diplomatic skill and strong sense of the key issues. Able to quickly assess and react to complex events, to summarise and communicate difficult/complex messages. Good ICT skills. Excellent organisational and diplomatic skills.
