Indus Valley City Planning Activity
Your city must have:






A citadel (which had walls around it)
Residential neighborhoods (with housing for 200 people) (real cities had 80,000!)
Plans for sewage to go out of each house and out of the city
Ways to get fresh water into each house (you will need to put in wells)
A great bath (46 feet long, 23 feet wide)
A grid layout (meaning streets are parallel and perpendicular to each other)
Helpful statistics:




A cart is 8 feet wide
One well provides water for 20 people
2 people can live in a 12x12 square foot area
Buildings can be up to three stories high
Other requirements:




Your city must be laid out on graph paper
It must have a key (which are one-story buildings? Which are sewer pipes? Which are water pipes? Etc.)
It must have a scale. Everything must be to scale!
It must be neat, like a blue print!
