PATHOS LITERARY MAGAZINE is currently seeking dedicated students to help with publication for the 2015-2016 school year. The available positions and responsibilities of each position are as follows: 1. Graphic Designer. This is a paid position with an expected stipend of $300 per term. Responsibilities include designing the print edition of Pathos (three issues per year: Fall, Winter, and Spring), assisting with the design and production of promotional materials (event flyers, calls for submissions, etc.), evaluating submissions, and distributing issues. The strongest candidate for this position demonstrates a developed understanding of interior layouts, experience working with Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign and Photoshop; and is comfortable formatting a variety of styles (e.g., poetry, photography, footnotes, visual art scans). Without a capable graphic designer, there is no hard copy of the magazine. Ability to work under a deadline and with a team is essential. 2. Copyeditor. This is a paid position with an expected stipend of $300 per term. Responsibilities include copyediting manuscripts, proofreading designed documents and online materials, evaluating submissions, and distributing issues. The strongest candidate for this position demonstrates a grasp of editing at the line level and has a strong eye for detail. Ability to work under a deadline is essential. 3. Social Media Manager. This is a paid position with an expected stipend of $300 per term. The primary responsibility for this position is building an online presence for Pathos: this includes managing and posting relevant content to our Facebook, Twitter, and other social media accounts, as well as keeping information on the organization's website accurate and up to date. Candidate will also aid in evaluating submissions and distributing issues. The ideal candidate has a firm grasp of how marketing and social media intersect, experience with WordPress, and is able to create an engaging online presence for Pathos and its contributors. 4. Volunteer Readers. These are unpaid, student volunteer positions. Pathos aims to represent the diverse creative endeavors of PSU students and faculty: in order to better represent PSU’s artists, we are looking for 3-5 volunteer readers to help out in our submission evaluation process. Volunteer positions are the most flexible: candidates can either commit to the entire academic year OR participate on a term-by-term basis. However, readers who sign up will be expected to be reliable, and to evaluate submissions in a timely manner. We are also interested in hearing from those who might like to volunteer in other ways (e.g., setting up events, distributing issues, postering). Let us know! Contact us at the email address listed below with the subject line "Volunteer Information" and your name. To apply, please send a cover letter, resume, expected fall term availability, and relevant examples of your work to pathosliterarymag@gmail.com. As a subject line, please list your prospective position followed by your name. Applicants seeking the position of copyeditor will be given a sample text to edit, and graphic designers will need a strong portfolio that demonstrates a practical understanding of interior layout design as well as cover design. All applicants must be committed to their responsibilities. Publishing is about deadlines, and submitters are often anxious to hear our decisions, despite their gracious patience. We want to maintain a positive image of punctuality, dedication to our community, and dedication to representation of undiscovered, diverse talents.
