Educational Benefits should NOT be considered as INCOME. _______ I understand that if receiving a Monthly Housing Stipend (MHA) it is received on or around the 1 st of each month. The VA is extremely busy every semester and my stipend could be delayed due to increased processing at the VA. _______ I understand that break or interval pay is no longer payable under any VA education benefits (CH 30, 1606, 1607, 33, VRAP) for the MHA. _______ I understand that if I am receiving CH 30, 1606, or 1607 that I must certify my enrollment through the VA online through WAVES or contact the VA at 1-800-442-4551 at the end of each month. _______ I understand my Educational Benefits are based on the eligibility timeframe of that benefit and while at SUSCC I must maintain satisfactory progress and personal conduct to receive my Education Benefits. _______ I understand that my certification status is based upon how many credit hours I am enrolled in for the current term (12 or more = full-time; 9 to 11 = ¾ time; 6 to 8 = ½ time; 4 to 5 = less than ½ time; 1 to 3 = ¼ time) _______ I understand that if I add and/or drop a class within the ADD/DROP period that I must notify the Veterans Affairs Coordinator in the Financial Aid Office. _______ I understand that if I withdraw or fail a class, my Educational Benefits could be liable for recoupment by the Department of Veterans Affairs and I am responsible for any recoupment to the Department of Veterans Affairs. _______ I understand that while attending Southern Union State Community College, I will learn how to access my Student Email Account to check my certification status and future correspondence with the VA Coordinator. SUSCC Value Excellence Through Southern Union’s Educational Development Revised 4/1/2013 Statement of Understanding 2013-2014 _______ I understand that if my educational benefits do not cover the total cost of my tuition/fees, I am responsible for the balance the day I register. The Alabama GI Dependent Scholarship Program pays: tuition, technology fees, and books. The program will not pay for developmental classes, facility fees ($9.00 per credit hour), purchases in the bookstore of technology or non-textbook related items, and books for repeat classes unless the edition changes. Expenses not covered are due at time of registration. Tuition Assistance pays ONLY tuition. Fees are the responsibility of the student and are due at the time of registration. Post 9/11 (Chapter 33) benefits are based on period of service and a percentage of benefits is established. The student is responsible for any expenses not covered by entitlement and is due at time of registration. Post 9/11 (Chapter 33) benefits do not cover the cost of out-of-state tuition. Students must pay the difference between in-state and out-of-state rates at the time of registration. Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) does not cover the cost of tuition, fees, and books. The student is responsible for all expenses at the time of registration. _______ I understand that I must attend all classes in which I am enrolled. Instructors will be asked at the beginning of every term to verify that students using Veterans Education Benefits (CH 30, 1606, 1607, 33 and VRAP). If the student is reported for non-attendance the VA will be notified and the student could be liable for recoupment by the Department of Veterans Affairs. _______ I understand that Tuition Assistance ONLY pays for tuition and that I am responsible for paying my fees. Fees must be paid at the time of registration. I understand all TA request paperwork must be submitted and approved no later than 14 days after the beginning of the first day of the semester. _______ I understand that if I am using Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) that I am responsible for the cost of all expenses (tuition/fees and books) at the time of registration. I understand that I must be enrolled in an approved program for VRAP and that I must register and attend a minimum of 12 hours while using the VRAP benefits. _______ I understand that if I am receiving the Chapter 33 benefit, I am responsible for the purchasing of my books with the understanding that I will receive a book stipend to help offset the cost of my books. _______ I understand that I must submit a VA Enrollment Certification Request to the Veterans Affairs Coordinator in the Financial Aid Office in order to have my enrollment certified for semesters determined by me on the Request form. The information above has been explained to my complete understanding and all of my questions have been answered to my satisfaction.
