Associate in Arts for Transfer Degree The Associate in Arts in English for Transfer degree will be awarded upon completion of 60 California State University (CSU) transferable units including the above major requirements and the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or California State University General Education (CSUGE) requirements with a minimum grade point average of 2.0. All courses in the major must be completed with a grade of “C” or better. (Students completing this degree are not required to fulfill the RCCD graduation requirements found in section VII. Additional degree requirements: Health Education and Self Development) __________________________________________________ Having a sense of what you’d like to do with your degree once you’ve completed it can also help you navigate your GE coursework and electives. For example for many English majors, having a good sense of the history of the country/ region whose literature you are most interested in studying or taking a class in the history of one of the fine arts (e.g. a survey of art or music history), or a philosophy class can be a terrific complement to your study of literature. Sociology and psychology classes can offer a good base on which to build if you study literary theory later on., etc. Grad School: think about foreign language while you are here at RCC and if you know what your main area of interest is, e.g. women in literature, this can you help you choose your GE courses—a sociology course that looks at issues of gender, for example. Students planning to pursue a teaching credential at CSUSB: Taking one of the World Literature courses (Eng 40 or 41) and Eng 16 (Linguistics) while at RCC can help you meet the course requirements you’ll need to fulfill at the lower division level for English majors pursuing the teaching credential at CSUSB. Students who plan to apply to UC: once you identify the UCs you want to apply to, work with your faculty advisor, the transfer center and assist.org to identify the specific mix of classes you need.
