Using the MoL collections to engage audiences through the delivery of a range of exhibitions and events (both onsite and outreach). This activity should be delivered through developing a team of motivated volunteers who will support all aspects of
MoL activity.
To engage a wide variety of audiences with the MoL collection in line with the aims of the Museum of Leathercraft.
To operationally plan, research and deliver all exhibitions and displays, events and outreach activities from development to inception including organising, administering, producing, maintaining, evaluating and monitoring, and demounting. To be developed with MoL and NMAG management team.
To audit and update the documentation of the Leathercraft collection and assess the potential of the collection for use in exhibitions, displays, events and outreach activity.
To contribute to the strategic development of the Leathercraft Collection and its profile by working with the Trustees of the Museum of Leathercraft and Northampton
Museum and Art Gallery ’s management team.
To forge closer links between the MoL collection and the collection at Northampton
Museum and Art Gallery.
To recruit, manage and develop a team of volunteers with the requisite skills to be involved in all areas of MoL to ensure sustainability for the future.
To work in partnership with external organisations as appropriate.
To write small funding bids to develop activity as appropriate.
To be a point of contact for MoL.
To be willing to participate in training to develop skills and knowledge as appropriate.
To undertake any other duties commensurate with the position as designated by the
Chair of The Museum of Leathercraft.
The job-holder is responsible for the following people and resources:
the Museum of Leathercraft collection (c5000 objects)
display and outreach equipment and materials
a team of volunteers
Jobholder’s position in relation to their manager, peers and direct reports:
taking direction from the Chair of the Trustees of the Museum of Leathercraft
consulting with stakeholders and partners
working closely with members of Northampton Museum and Art Gallery staff at all levels
liaising with customers, visitors, such as community groups, schools, craftspeople
developing relationships with, sponsors and funding bodies.
This job entails the following demands:
the postholder will be required to work outside normal office hours and at weekends and bank holidays as necessary
the postholder will be required to be heavily involved in installing exhibitions and outreach activities which will involve lifting, carrying and travelling
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge and understanding of exhibition, event and outreach activity development
Knowledge of managing volunteers
Able to understand spreadsheets and be capable of basic financial control
Previous experience of working in the cultural sector
Knowledge of collections management
Understanding of the national curriculum
