Checklist for New Dual Degree Students (new to both programs)
Prior to acceptance to both NYU and LIU:
 Review all information on the dual degree program:

Once admitted to both Universities AND the dual degree program:
 For Financial Aid: (NYU is the Home School)
 Fill out FAFSA for NYU and LIU (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/)
 Read the dual degree financial aid process
 Submit the signed Consortium Agreement to the Palmer School Director in
Manhattan (http://www.nyu.edu/financial.aid/forms_and_apps.html)
 The NYU financial aid contact is Garrett.Renner@nyu.edu
 Your financial aid counselor at Post is Debra.Denny@liu.edu (for last names
starting with A – L) or Connie.Abbondandolo@liu.edu (for last names starting
with M – Z). Please be sure to mention ‘dual degree’ in the subject line!
 Complete Health Forms
 NYU -- paper and online forms
 LIU -- paper and online forms

 Housing Options

 IDs
 NYU -- picture taken at ID office; activate NetID online
 LIU -- picture taken at Palmer orientation or Palmer office; barcode for LIU
databases available in Palmer office
 Work-study/working on campus
 Visit the NYU Wasserman Center to fill out paperwork and look for available
positions (http://www.nyu.edu/careerdevelopment/)

 Email your resume/CV and a copy of your NYU personal statement to the
Palmer School Director in Manhattan
 For the Mentoring Program (4 credit course):
 Get in touch with the Mentoring Coordinator for a meeting with the committee
 Be sure to register for the four credit mentorship course—LIS 785. You will
register only once for this course. Your grade of Pass/Fail will be added at the end
of your program.
 Attend the weeklong Library Boot Camp (the week before the semester begins)

 GSAS Orientation for New Graduate Students
 Palmer Orientation for New Students
 Individual GSAS Department Orientation for New Students
 Credit Transfer
 When you have completed 9 credits at LIU, transfer them to NYU via the
following form: http://gsas.nyu.edu/object/grad.pdf.transfercreditrequest
Note: Your GSAS Director of Graduate Studies needs to sign the form.
 When you have completed 8 credits at NYU, transfer them to LIU. The form is
available in the Palmer Office or on the Palmer blog:

 Note: Credits transferred to Palmer will not show up on your transcript until you
have completed 15 credits.
 Tracking Progress
 Check in at the Palmer office every semester to review your current courses and
prepare a tentative program for the following semester.
 Graduation Forms
 File forms at the start of your last semester in LIU and/or NYU. Remember, you
file separately to graduate from each individual master’s program.
