UCO-CEPS Grant Writing Scholars Program A new program has been established for faculty members with interest and capacity to become more involved in external grant activities. The CEPS Grant Writing Scholars Program was developed by Mary Huffman with the assistance of the CEPS Grant Council and is based on many components of the CURESTEM program that has been so successful in the College of Mathematics and Science. Following are more details about this new program. Title of the Program: CEPS Grant-Writing Scholars’ Program Number of Participants: During the first year of the program (which will begin July 1, 2012), up to 4 CEPS faculty members will be selected to participate. Each year, more faculty may apply to be considered for the program. Eligibility of Participants: All full-time faculty will be eligible to apply. Length of Commitment: Participants will be required to sign a “Memorandum of Understanding” after being accepted into the program for a 2-year period. Requirements for Scholars: Attend a CEPS grant-writing workshop, and/or 1 outside grant-writing workshop (approved by the Grant Facilitator) each year Meet with Grant Facilitator and Department Chair once a month to report on progress Attend scheduled grant-writing meetings with the Grant Facilitator Submit a completed grant proposal, or revision, to an external-funding agency each year Work with the Grant Facilitator in developing a grant proposal, budget and timeline Plan and participate in 1 professional meeting, with a student co-author. Produce, with appropriate student co-authors, at least 1 manuscript and/or presentation on the work accomplished through the program Participating Faculty Incentives will include: Reassigned Time: 6 hours of reassigned time per year (3 hours fall and 3 hours spring semesters) Undergraduate Research Assistant: 1 student for 5 hours/week each semester Grant-Writing Workshop: participation in a grant writing workshop sponsored and funded by CEPS Proposal Development Trip: up to $1,500 to attend a proposal development trip/yearly. This could be a trip to Wash. D.C. to speak with a Program Director, attendance at a regional funding agency conference, etc. How to Apply: Interested faculty will be required to fill out an application for consideration of their participation in the program and have it signed by their Department Chair. The original copy and any attachments should be sent to the Grant Facilitator, Mary Huffman (EDU 225). Review of Applications: Once applications are received by the Grant Facilitator, the CEPS Grant Council will review each application and submit their recommendations to the Dean for his consideration for funding. All final decisions are made by the Dean. Priority for consideration will be given to faculty who have already identified a funding source, and/or are working on a current grant application, or resubmission.
