NOMINATION AND APPLICATION GUIDELINES FOR UNIVERSITY
SCHOLAR AWARD
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is now accepting nominations
for the University Scholar Award. The award recognized a full-time faculty
member for outstanding contributions to scholarship, research, grant writing,
and/or creative activity. The University Scholar Award is the most prestigious
research honor bestowed upon a faculty member at Lamar. The award comes
with a $5,000 stipend which the recipient may use to support his or her future
scholarship.
The Research Council will serve as the selection committee.
Selection Criteria include:
 Current significant scholarship
 A history of ongoing exemplary scholarship spanning at least the previous
five years
 Projected impact of the University Scholar Award on future scholastic
accomplishments
All faculty members who have been employed by Lamar University for at least
five years are eligible for the award, but no one may receive the award twice.
Applications may not exceed ten pages and must include:
 a nomination letter from peer or self which describes the applicant’s
lifetime scholarly and creative accomplishments
 letter of support
 a current vita and/or description of accomplishments appropriate for
consideration of award
 budget for use of the $5,000 stipend
The award is funded through returned indirect costs and use is restricted by
statute to research-related activities such release time, employing research
assistants, research travel, and capital equipment when such equipment is not
available through HEAF. Nominations may be submitted through email
(rspa@lamar.edu), campus mail (P O Box 10119) or hand delivered to the Office
of Sponsored Programs. ORIGINAL COPIES WITH SIGNATURES MUST BE
SUBMITTED TO THE OFFICE OF SPONSORED PROGRAMS. The deadline for
nominations is Monday, March 26, 2015.
