Statement of inquiry: Our bodies function most efficiently under particular conditions of
temperature, water, glucose, oxygen, etc, and we have systems designed to keep these conditions
constant.
Inquiry questions: Why is it important to keep a healthy balance? How do I keep a healthy balance?
Background
If a person loses a lot of blood-either from a wound or during surgery-he or she may be given a blood
transfusion. Most early attempts at blood transfusion failed, but no one knew why until the early
1900s. Karl Landsteiner, an Austrian American physician, had led to a better understanding of
transfusions.
Assignment
 Write at least 500 words.
 You are going to write the essay in the summative assessment paper.
