Relationship between Philosophy and theory and my
philosophy of Education in My future classroom
Philosophy:
Philosophy is the study of fundamental nature of knowledge, learning, values, reasons,
truth, morality and reality. It is a guide for living, learning and teaching.
Theory:
Theory is set of principals which base on observation and practice, for example theory of
education.
Relationship between theory and philosophy:
Study shows philosophy and theory has close relationship but both are not identical
especially theory of anything which can’t define without philosophy. Everything has philosophy
but to make it easy and explainable for everyone we need some examples and theory.
Branches of philosophy:
Philosophy divided in some branches for studies. Which are?
Epistemology:
Researchers show Epistemology is a branch of philosophy which means knowledge.
Epistemology is start with questions, observation and experiment. Epistemology is make
difference between truth and false. For example we ask questions: is knowledge possible? How
we know something but not others? How do we get knowledge?
Metaphysics:
According to researchers metaphysics is what we know. This branch of philosophy
explains nature of truth. It is a study of reality. This is the believe how we learn, teach and
establish our understanding about reality.
Axiology:
Axiology is one other branch of philosophy which means study of values. Axiology base
one ethics, the values of knowledge, values of experience, values of standards and values of facts
and judgments.
Logic:
Logic is the branch of philosophy that helps us to understand the valid conclusions of
basic principles. Logic helps us to learn very critical and hard subject easily.
Philosophies of Education
Every school has their own system and behind those systems have some philosophy of values.
School system philosophy start with reality, need and knowledge which help school to establish
their mission and goals to achieve for teachers and students. Studies shows couple different type
of branches of philosophy of education. First one call perennialism. This is a conservative
philosophy of education which teaches us that truth and reality never change. Our past is a truth
and we can’t make any changing in history. We have to believe in it. Also this philosophy of
education use in religion education. Second one call idealism. This kind means what we see
goodness in the world follow it and try to be like that. It can be a model or a person. That’s why
schools always teach about the heroes of our nation as ideals. Third one call realism. This kind
believes on view, what we see around in the nature, it’s all base on truth. Nature can’t change
that’s what this philosophy of education teaches us. In schools kids learn factual laws of nature.
Fourth one call experimentalism. This philosophy of education teaches us that truth is what you
experiment, believe what you did and learn. Theory is great but results we get after practical are
more true and right. Believe on the results. Kids learn science subjects and with the practical got
prove about the theory. Fifth one call existentialism. This philosophy makes us to believe on
ourselves. Kids participate in open decision and decide what they will choose for their future.
What is good and benefit will be for them.
As a future teacher I will use all the branches of philosophy of education in my class. I think, it’s
hard to choose only one branch for kids to teach. A teacher’s purpose is not just to produce
hundreds of students every year who are holding only degrees for job. Teachers should produce
students who are thinker, experimenters, researchers, developers and truth seeker. We need to
develop better humans with better knowledge of philosophy.
