Santa Barbara, CA, February 8, 2016 – Lobero LIVE is gearing up to present three big concerts and
one standout dance theatre production in September, kicking off a big season ahead.
The Lobero Theater is pleased to announce a special concert on Sunday, September 13 at 7 PM with
legendary singer/songwriter (and Santa Ynez Valley resident) Jim Messina and band with special guest
Poco’s Rusty Young “Sittin’ in.” The concert will feature music they created as members of Poco,
Buffalo Springfield and Loggins & Messina. Loggins & Messina went on to record eight best-selling
albums, becoming one of the most popular rock/pop groups of the 1970‘s selling over 20 million
records. Rusty Young continued as the leader of Poco, creating a rich musical legacy over the past 40
years with hit recordings such as Crazy Love and Heart of The Night.
Then, Jazz at the Lobero presents Chick Corea & Béla Fleck on Tuesday, September 15 at 8 PM.
Chick Corea & Béla Fleck, two master songwriters, musicians, and bandleaders meet in a historic duet
of piano and banjo. The GRAMMY-winning duet will combine Corea and Fleck’s most recognizable
tunes with the music from their album The Enchantment. With a mix of jazz and pop standards,
crossing a myriad of genres, from jazz, bluegrass, rock, flamenco and gospel, this will be a casual,
intimate evening with two legends from different musical worlds.
DANCEworks is proud to welcome pioneering choreographer Adam Barruch Dance for their 2015
residency. Barruch will be beginning work on a Dance Theater interpretation of Stephen Sondheim's
1
masterpiece, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, in which movement will be utilized to
accentuate Sondheim's brilliant score. Mentored by acclaimed Canadian artist, Margie Gillis, Adam
Barruch will work with a company of six performers to discover the corporeal language that eventually
become a full-scale production of the acclaimed musical, taking audiences deeper into the
psychological realms of the complex and emotionally charged characters. On Friday and Saturday,
September 25 & 26–at the end of the four-week residency–there will be two preview performances of
the new work alongside other repertory by the company.
Closing out the month, Lobero LIVE presents The Milk Carton Kids with special guest Joe Pug on
Wednesday, September 30 at 8 PM. Cultural purveyors from Garrison Keillor to T Bone Burnett to Billy
Bragg have hailed the duo’s importance among a group of new folk bands, both expanding and
contradicting the rich tradition that precedes them. The Milk Carton Kids won Duo/Group of the Year at
the Americana Music Awards, and were featured in T Bone Burnett & the Coen Brothers' concert
documentary, "Another Day/Another Time,” quickly selling out their American tour last year.
Tickets are on sale now at Lobero.com, or by calling the Lobero Box Office at 805.963.0761. VIP tickets
include entrance to VIP reception with food and bar before the concert and a listing in the event
program. All prices subject to facility fees. Complete calendar listings can be found at Lobero.com.
The Lobero Theatre Foundation’s Lobero LIVE label is placed on many of the high-caliber
performances at the theatre, but have you even wondered what that means? Though these events are
only a portion of all the activity that takes place on this stage, the Lobero Theatre Foundation is busy
behind the scenes raising funds to preserve and maintain the Lobero as a vibrant community resource–
which includes presenting top-quality entertainment, and providing enriching programs designed for
youth and underserved populations in the area. Learn more about the Lobero Theatre Foundation here.

Tuesday, November 10
Back by popular demand! Gypsy jazz genius Dorado Schmitt and his all-star ensemble return for an

Gypsy jazz, but rebelled by taking up electric guitar and emulating Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana. By
the mid-90’s he was a leading figure on the international Gypsy jazz scene, where he continues to
represent the art form at its highest level. *Part of the Fall Jazz Series
