Sefton Schools Art Competition
The Atkinson is a cultural destination for tourists, visitors and residents and aims to bring the
very best in arts and culture to the North West. In particular, encouraging and nurturing
creativity in children and young people is at the heart of our mission at The Atkinson.
Working in partnership with NADFAS, The Atkinson is hosting an open art competition for
schools in Sefton to create an exciting opportunity for young people to showcase their work
in our newly refurbished Galleries.
Open to primary (year 5) and secondary (year 9) schools in the Sefton Borough, the prize
winners will feature as part of the Sefton Open exhibition. All prizes have been donated by
NADFAS .
Open art exhibition from Sunday 7th December 2014 to Friday 27 February 2015.
Conditions of entry:
Eligibility
The exhibition is for paintings, drawings, prints (not reproductions), photography and mixed
media. There is no prescribed theme for works entered.
Colouring in an outline printed or drawn by someone else is not acceptable. Adults may give
encouragement, but must not have a hands-on role in creating the artwork. The Atkinson
may reject entries that it considers inappropriate for any reason
A maximum of 5 pieces of work per school may be submitted.
Selection
The work is selected by a panel appointed by the Atkinson. All works are judged on
individual merit and the judges’ decision is final. No correspondence or discussion will be
entered into. Work that has been selected for display must remain in the gallery until close of
exhibition.
Prizes
The following prizes, sponsored by NADFAS are offered to the school of the winning pupil:
The first prize and runner up will be awarded to a Primary and Secondary school :
1st Prize
The 1st prize winner will be given the opportunity to take part, alongside one
class of children, in a free art session with our very own artist in residence,
Sarah Jane Richards.
The winning pupil will also receive a £30 John Lewis Voucher.
Runner up
Pupils awarded the runner up prize will receive a £20 John Lewis Voucher
All work submitted will be displayed in our Sefton Voices Exhibition, based in the Atkinson
Library. The winners will feature as part of our Sefton Open Exhibition.
The judges will also highly commend a number of entries which will then feature as part of
our Sefton Open Exhibition.

Display
All works must be on paper and not exceed size A2 (16.5 X 23.4 inches). We can not
accept any framed works or works behind glass. Works can be mounted.
Submission
Work should be submitted on Thursday 13th November between 9.30am and 5pm:

Completed labels must be handed in with the work on submission day. The Atkinson
can not accept works that are not clearly labelled. (See label attached on final page of form
for more information)
Results
The winning schools will be notified by email on Monday 19thst November. Invitations to the
winning Artists’ Reception with NADFAS at the Atkinson will be sent out as soon as possible.
The Reception will be held on the launch date of the exhibition on Saturday 22nd
November at 12pm .Winners’ names (but no other identifying data) will also be announced
on the Atkinson website.
Collection of work
Work should be collected from the Atkinson on:
 Tuesday 3rd March 2015 between 09.30am and 5.00pm
 Wednesday 4th March 2015 between 09.30am and 5.00pm
The Atkinson reserves the right to destroy any work that has been exhibited but not collected
by the collection date.
Liability
The Atkinson will take all reasonable care in handling and safeguarding works submitted.
Schools should be aware; however, that work is submitted at their own risk. The Atkinson
will do its upmost to look after all works but cannot ultimately be held responsible for
damages to any works submitted.

Label
The label below must be fully completed and secured to the group of works chosen to
represent the school in order to be received by the Atkinson. All works must have pupils
name written on the back so it is clear who the work belongs to.
All labels must be attached and submitted with the work on the day of submission on
Thursday 13th November 9.30-5pm.
By completing the label you are agreeing to the terms and condition of entry to The Sefton
Schools Art Competition.
