RES. 82IN SUPPORT OF THE PROPOSED COUNSELING CENTER FEE INCREASE _______________________________ IN THE SENATE OF THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS _______________________________ OCTOBER 10TH, 2014 SUBMITTED BY SENATOR MCCRILLIS AND SENATOR RAMIREZ TO THE COMMITTEE ON UNIVERSITY AFFAIRS _______________________________ A Resolution 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Whereas, the University of Nevada is increasing in population and will surpass the 20,000 mark within the next few years; Whereas, there is a call for an increase in assistance to the services provided at the University of Nevada to accommodate the growth; Whereas, the Counseling Center is having to turn away people because of the lack of faculty available to help student during their hours; Whereas, the University of Nevada has a vested interest in the wellness of the students of the University of Nevada, be it physical or mental health; Whereas, the proposed increase is from $35 to $50; 2 1 Whereas, the University’s Counseling Center is in jeopardy of losing its accreditation due to 2 the lack of response time and professional staff and student ratio being higher than the national 3 average; 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 Whereas, the fee increase will ensure that the students of the University of Nevada will receive the highest level of quality counseling possible; Whereas, the fee increase will allow for additional psychologists to be hired to alleviate the increase in student visits and also decrease the time waited per visit; Whereas, this will open up an opportunity to allow a doctoral psychology internship program to be established at Nevada; Whereas, this fee will also benefit students who do not directly use this center by creating a safer and healthier environment for the campus community; Be it resolved that, the Associated Students of the University of Nevada are in full support of the proposed fee increase; Be it further resolved that, this resolution be sent to the next Board of Regents meeting. ○
