JOB TITLE: Basic Grade Physicist REPORTS TO: Chief Physicist ROLE SUMMARY: Working as part of a team of scientists and other healthcare professionals, the Basic Grade Hospital Physicist will contribute scientific and technical support to the hospital. He/She will work to ensure that all physics related activities, at this major teaching hospital, are of the highest quality, are safe and are cost-effective. It is expected that the post-holder will be the major contributor to the scientific aspects of Non-Ionising Radiation used in the hospital, including non-ionising radiation safety advice and quality assurance of Laser and Ultra-Violet equipment. The post-holder will take the leading scientific role in the provision and management of routine UltraViolet treatments in the Department of Dermatology. The role will also focus on MRI safety & quality as well as the use of ultrasound equipment throughout the hospital. The person appointed would be expected to contribute significantly to the development medical physics endeavours in these topics. However, as these duties will be done as part of a team, the post-holder will also be expected to actively participate in other Medical Physics services including Nuclear Medicine, X-ray Quality Assurance and PACS/IT. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES a) b) c) d) e) f) g) h) i) j) k) l) Under the direction of the Chief Physicist, and in close consultation with the appropriate Dermatology Consultants, the basic grade will be the primary contributor to routine UV services in the Department of Dermatology. Contribute to the scientific management of Lasers and laser safety in the hospital. Participate in the scientific management of the hospital’s nuclear medicine service. Contribute to and develop the routine QA arrangements for all imaging equipment. Contribute routine scientific support for all imaging equipment Participate in the management of quality and safety for patient-oriented equipment. Participate as requested to the organisation and presentation of in-house education & training for other hospital staff. Participate in relevant research and development of clinically related topics in physics. Actively participate in the development of Medical Physics at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital and contribute to the commitment and initiation of new services. Participate in formal training including approved MSc or PhD courses of study, if appropriate. Actively participate in activities that constitute continuing professional development Be willing to undertake any other duties or training as requested by the Chief Physicist in order to maintain quality of the Medical Physics service to the patients and staff.
