Job Description Post: Freelance Medical Statistician Responsible to: Dr James Logan Duties and Responsibilities The post-holder will be required to provide statistical expertise to provide support for the scientific team. In particular, they will be expected to carry out sample size calculations, assist with trial design and write statistical analysis plans. They will also be expected to perform data handling, cleaning/consistency checks and analyses in accordance with study protocols. They may assist with reporting results, including the production of illustrations, tables or figures for confidential reports and publications. RESPONSIBILITIES General To undertake statistical analysis To ensure deadlines and project milestones relating to data and analyses are met, coordinating with other members of staff and external collaborators as necessary. To provide statistical input as required for decisions about study management, drawing attention to potential problems in terms of data quality and analysis which could impact on final results of studies. To provide statistical advice on the development of new research proposals, including study design and sample size calculations. To assist when required in the development of case report forms and specifications for analysis datasets, and, in collaboration with Database Programmers, the study database. Specific To provide appropriate input, such as graphs and illustrations, for publication, collaborate on the preparation of papers for publication, and contribute to scientific meetings. To collaborate on the development of proposals to secure research funding. To ensure the strict confidentiality of all patient records. To maintain appropriate channels and styles of communication to meet the needs of the research team. To liaise with other members of the research group as appropriate and our clients if necessary To work with members of the study team to ensure quality targets are met. To act at all times in accordance with the highest professional standards and maintain client and participant confidentiality at all time. Person Specification Essential Criteria: Postgraduate degree (eg, MSc) in statistics or related field, or equivalent experience Previous experience of statistics, with emphasis on clinical studies Sound knowledge of Stata software Demonstrable experience of dealing with confidential data Have excellent inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting Involvement with previous publications or presentations of scientific data Have excellent organisational and IT skills Have excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to work to tight deadlines Desirable Criteria Previous understanding or experience of research involving insects Ability to be self-organised Knowledge of research methodology Peer-reviewed publication of research Familiarity with regulatory requirements and research governance SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF APPOINTMENT The appointment is for a freelancer to work on an ad-hoc basis. The post will be subject to the Chariot Innovations terms and conditions of service.
