August 1, 2015 Dear St. Luke’s Preschool Parents, As the first days of preschool approach we are getting excited to share a new school year with your children. Preschool will begin at 8:30 on Wednesday, September 9. Children attending mornings only should be picked up promptly at 11:15. Full day preschool ends at 3:00. See the note* at the bottom of the page for the days & times your child is scheduled to attend preschool. Before school care, AM CAMP, is in the main building beginning at 7:30 AM. CAMP, the after preschool care, is offered in the main building from 3:00 to 5:30, as needed. Parent Orientation will be held in the evening for new and returning parents to hear about your child’s program, meet other parents, and drop off school supplies. Please do not bring children to the orientation. All parents are asked to come Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM to the Convent Building (Preschool Building) 2 nd floor Arts Room. Parents of new students and those of returning children who have experienced separation anxiety in the past are asked to remain at 8:00 for helpful tips on dealing with separation. Please bring items from the enclosed Preschool Checklist to Parent Orientation and leave them inside the side door entryway of the Convent. You are also invited to attend a “Welcome to Preschool Hour” for new & returning students on Tuesday, September 8 from 10:00-10:45 for new students and 11:00-11:45 for returning students. Come meet your teachers, see the preschool classrooms and find your child’s cubby and name tag. Preschoolers and caregivers are welcome to attend this Pre-K play day event. Please bring any remaining checklist items. This is an abbreviated preschool morning that helps you and your child see what a preschool day is like, yet leaves them wanting more for a happy return on their first day. A complete list of all items and forms needed by the first day of preschool is enclosed. Please try to send in all items before the first day of school. We ask each family to donate a CVS Gift Card in any amount for us to use toward developing photos and documentation for your child’s portfolio. Also helpful for our classroom are zip close snack or sandwich bags, hypoallergenic unscented tissues, diaper wipes or disinfecting wipes and glue sticks (our favorites are Avery and Elmers). In addition to a full change of clothing in a zip close bag labeled with your child’s name, we also ask parents to keep an extra pair of mittens at the school. We will go outside every day, regardless of the weather, even if only for a few minutes. Full Day students will also need a labeled small receiving-type blanket that when folded easily fits in a cubby 12” X 7” X 5” for rest time. We ask you to purchase a special rest time yoga mat for a small fee at Parent Orientation, more information about this to follow. Snacks will continue to be provided by the preschool for all students. Please be sure to give us written notice of any allergies your child may have. We are required by law to have an Individual Health Care Plan on file for every student with a health care concern before the start of school. This form is to be completed by the child's physician and discussed with parent, teacher, and nurse. It addresses the child’s needs and protocols in the event of an emergency. A Parent Questionnaire is enclosed to help us learn a little bit about your child before school begins and to update information we have for returning children. All families should be sure to fill out and return a new questionnaire before the first day of school, even if your child is returning to the preschool. Be sure to include all information on both sides. Please make every effort to mail or drop off completed forms to the St. Luke’s School Office before September 1. This gives us time to read and sort the forms. After September 1 all forms and supplies should be brought directly to the preschool or Parent Orientation. The Immunization Record, Physical Exam Report, Health Care Plan, IEP information (if applicable) and Emergency Form must be in before the first day of school for your child to attend. We look forward to seeing you at Parent Orientation! Sincerely, Eileen Dennis * Your child is scheduled to attend preschool the following days and times:
