C S R & S D (2013-14) BEML LIMITED CSR & SD ACTIVITIES OF BEML 2013-14 BEML in continuing its endeavor towards being a Socially Responsible Business entity and achieving its CSR & SD Vision has undertaken and successfully completed the following CSR & SD Activities for the year 2013-14 : CSR & SD SEMINAR / WORKSHOP / TRAINING BEML towards incorporating the philosophy of CSR & SD and creating awareness at all levels in the organisation has trained 160 Executives & Employees of the Company. BEML intends to impart further exposure training employees / Officers in the future. REHABILITATION OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN ASSOCIATION WITH M/s ALIMCO BEML had tied up with M/s ALIMCO for the project ‘Rehabilitation of persons with disability’. Accordingly, 25 Nos. disabled people of Honnalli Taluk of Davanagere were identified through the District Disabled Welfare Office, Davanagere. The aids and appliances viz., Tricycles, Wheel Chairs, Braille Cane and MR Kits required by these people were procured and the distributed in the camp was held 30.01.2014. DISTRIBUTION OF ARTIFICIAL LIMBS BEML has been associated with M/s Palakkad Fort Town Lions Trust, Palakkad for the last three years and for the current year has sponsored 5 Nos. of artificial limbs to beneficiaries at Palakkad through M/s Palakkad Fort Town Lions Trust. HEALTH CARE FACILITIES THROUGH MOBILE MEDICAL CAMPS M/s Bharat Gold Mines Ltd., KGF was closed during the year 2001. Consequent upon the closure of BGML Hospital, BGML employees were deprived of medical facilities. BEML has been extending mobile medical facilities to the ex-BGML employees & their families still residing in BGML Township and has conducted 105 camps for the year. CLEAN & GREEN ENERGY BEML has undertaken for setting-up of new Wind Mill of 18 MW capacity at Bagalkot/Koppal District in the direction of being self-sufficient in terms of power requirement, which incidentally would be clean and green energy. With the implementation of this project, 90% of BEML’s requirement of energy will be met. The Company has mitigated 22957 Tons of Carbon deposits for the current year through its already existing 5MW Wind Mill at Gadag district in Karnataka and through tree plantation at its Divisions / Complexes. CONSERVATION OF ENERGY THROUGH SOLAR LIGHTING BEML has undertaken additional Solar Lighting facility at KGF Complex towards Energy Conservation. In addition to the above, the Company has undertaken various energy efficient methods to conserve energy at its Divisions / Complexes. AFFORESTATION PROGRAM In order to protect the environment & cultivate greenery, saplings of various types was planted in and around the factory / township premises. In addition, saplings were distributed to employees / officers of the Company to promote greenery. A total of 20076 saplings were planted & distributed for the current year. FORMULATION OF CORPORATE COMMUNICATION STRATEGY With a view towards better implementation of its CSR & SD Activities, BEML has formulated and implemented the Corporate Communication Strategy to receive feedbacks from the beneficiaries of the CSR & SD Projects. Five such meetings were held and the feedback received from the beneficiaries was positive for the services provided. SKILL DEVELOPMENT OF SC/ST & BPL YOUTH BEML has provided one BL-9H Loader, five numbers of Tool Kits along with aggregates to the Centurion University for the skill development of Schedule Caste(SC), Schedule Tribe(ST) and Below Poverty Line(BPL) youth in a naxal affected, Tribal and poorest district of Odisha through Centurion University, as part of CSR & SD initiative. In addition, BEML has organized to train the faculties of the University to ensure proper training to the students. VALUE EDUCATION KIT BEML has provided 120 Nos. of Value Education kits to teachers of BEML Schools at KGF and Bangalore for imparting value education for students in its Education as part of curriculum. VOCATIONAL TRAINING As part of its on-going CSR program, BEML through the Labour Welfare Funds has been providing vocational training to persons in areas such as Para Medical, Tailoring, Computer application, Typing, Shorthand, Music/ Dance courses etc., for gainful employment. A total of 509 persons were trained for the current year. CSR PROGRAM AT ANANDASHRAM, BANGALORE BEML Ladies club celebrated Woman’s day to bring smile to the aged and children of Anandashram, Bangalore by sharing a meal, providing ceiling fans and others. The initiative was supported by BEML.
