Meeting Minutes
February 18, 2013
CALL TO ORDER: President Ryan Freed called this meeting to order at 6:30 pm.
 ROLL CALL: Tim LeBel, Max Bedrosian, Karin Beswick, James Boyadjian, Blair Carroll,

Emily D’Iorio, Ryan Freed, Jeff Hinckley, Dylan Kelly, Dave Kendall, Ally Manning, Brian
Migisha, Matt Mazzie, Jenni Mickool, Chris Mills, Nick Moon, Tarek Elamine, Taylor

 READING AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
 Last week’s Minutes were Approved
 OPEN FLOOR FOR NON SENATORS:
 INTER-CLASS COUNCIL:
o Commencement Ball ticket sales still going on tomorrow and
Wednesday – will be sold through SP&L on Wednesday
o Juniors planning Backyard Baseball event
o Sophomores planning Colt State Park getaway
o Freshman Beach themed dance went really well, everyone
seemed to have fun
o Cake Off – raised over $1000!
 Event went really well
 Props to Dave and Ryan for getting Caked in the face
 Ryan – Cake Off was awesome this year
o Secretary and PR chair positions still open, applications due
this Friday at noon

HAWKS’ HERALD:
o Hope everyone had a good weekend and fun at Cake Off
o Selected new Editing Board

INTER-RESIDENCE HALL ASSOCIATION:
o Good evening Senators
o Sex Week dates are getting solidified
o Second round of nominations tomorrow night
o Hall Council Barbeques happening over next few weeks
 Anyone can feel free to stop by

CAMPUS ENTERTAINMENT NETWORK:
o Last Tuesday – played The Hobbit
o Co-spo’ed with Up Til Dawn with the Bungee Jump run at
their event
o This Wednesday – selling carnations outside the Dance Show
o Red Sox getaway ticket sales are this Thursday and Friday
 65-70 tickets, sold at $10 from 11-2 pm and 4-7 pm
o Concert tickets go on sale next week!
o Selected new Secretary and Treasurer – Kevin Spencer and
Mitchell B. respectively
 PR Chair position still open, let
Chris/Courtney/Tim/Katie if interested

MULTI-CULTURAL STUDENT UNION:
o Excited about winning Cake Off this Saturday!
o Tomorrow – elections for E Board positions
o Please come out to the Fashion Show this Friday
 Anyone who is in the show, don’t need to come with
hair and makeup done
 8 pm here in the Field House
o Basketball jam coming up in two weeks

WQRI:
o Ttill playing music
o Today – tye dye event/fundraiser for the concert
 More will be sold this Saturday
o Concert this Saturday – outside the rec center from 4 – 6 pm
 Blair – heard great things about the shirts and lots of
people are excited for the concert!

ADVISORS:
o Carol – great job on Cake Off
 Cool videos of Carol caking Ryan and Dave in
the face
 Don’t forget about cleaning up the office and
transitioning
 Anyone interested in 5th Grade Day – please let Carol
know
 In the Field House and gym most of the day for
May 7th


Email from Arnold Robinson asking for two Senators to sit on Community
Partnership committee
 Main dates – April 25 and May 2 (11- 2 pm) to meet with Deans and
other administrators
 If anyone is interested or wants more info – let Ryan know
o Carol – great if you’re coming back next year and could
continue
Congrats to Dave and everyone who ran who was elected to next year’s
Senate
Keep the office clean
PARLIAMENTARIAN’S REPORT:

Updated By Laws from bills last Monday, will distribute them later this
week to everyone
 STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
 PUBLIC RELATIONS:
o Emailed John at Forbes Marketing about Senate clothes
 Windbreakers with names and new senate logos, but
depends on new logo that’s picked
 Will pick one, want to see what people like
though

ACADEMIC AFFAIRS:
o Professor of the Semester is going up as we speak
o Committee meeting this week – looking into how to do
nominations for Provost’s Advisory Council and how to
separate between everyone

STUDENT AFFAIRS:
o Meeting with Carol and Dr. King about Guidebook on April
11th
o Meeting with Kate Tobin to discuss new parking waivers
o Discussed and assessed Safety Walk

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS:
o CEN came last week – voted on giving clubs stipends who are
participating in Block Party
o Will be giving clubs stipends who participated in Up Til Dawn
as well
o Few clubs coming this week to the meeting

FINANCE:
o Three clubs came last week
o Committee finally voted on all of the budgets
 Will be introducing bill tonight on it


UNIVERSITY COMMITTEE/ COUNCIL REPORTS:





Elections committee is now dissolved
Matt and Ryan – Sexual Assault Task Force
 Went over last year’s crime stats and future campaigning
Karin – Faculty Senate
 Lots of discussion on retention and recruitment
 Hiring new Dean for CAS
 Tom clarified a lot on some issues they had with Student Senate
 Tom – Joan Romano is now acting Registrar
Celine – Academic Integrity Committee
 Went over By Laws
Jenni – Dining Committee
 Taking suggestions from students on new name for Lower Commons
deli
 Steak and Lobster night is coming up this Thursday, please make
reservations this week!
OLD BUSINESS:
o Bill About Club Sports
 Nick – untabled from last week
 Talked extensively about it during the Finance Committee meeting
and decided to still move forward with it

Amount of money that Club Sports get is the motivation behind this
bill – can’t cap a certain monetary amount for everyone
 Blair – Friendly Amendment
o States that clubs need to be clubs for at least 2 years instead
of 1 year
 ACCEPTED
 Motion to call to question
 PASSED
o Resolution recognizing Pat and Maria for their Exceptional Dining services
 Ryan – two outstanding women in CAS Café
 Manner they do their job on a consistent basis is awesome and
should be acknowledged for going above and beyond in their
attitudes and work ethic
 Tom – if you vote against this, you are metaphorically slapping two
older women in the face
o Think it’s a great resolution
 Motion to adopt by general consent
o PASSED

NEW BUSINESS:
o Bill Approving all Org and Club Budgets
 Dylan – regular consideration for next week

OPEN DEBATE:
o Open and closed

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
o Adrianne – all orgs need to submit winners for SIRB by this Wednesday to
Adrianne
o Dave – thank you everyone for voting for him for Senate 40 President
 Next week will be caucus for Senate 40 – if you want to be a chair of a
committee, let Dave know
o Ryan – make sure everyone votes for whatever Senate logo they like the best
before they leave
o Tom – will be attending Grad School at University of Saint Andrews
o Carol – Dinner with President next week – shuttle leaving at 5 pm outside the Rec
Center

 Regular meeting will start at around 7 pm
o Matt – meeting with rep from Facilities - if anyone has any issues with Facilities,
let him know
