Martin, 2013-2014 Tobey Hospital Guild President WAREHAM, Mass. — The Tobey Hospital Guild recently held their annual meeting and scholarship presentation on May 23, at the Bay Pointe Country Club in Wareham. The Tobey Guild elected new officers for the 2013-2015 term. Outgoing president Dorothy Rasmussen welcomed incoming president Joan M. Martin. In her final speech, Rasmussen praised the Guild for their continuous support, highlighting several accomplishments of the Guild during her tenure. Major accomplishments included, raising $200,000 in three years to complete a $100,000 pledge to the Southcoast™ Centers for Cancer Care in Fairhaven and a $100,000 pledge to purchase patient equipment for Tobey Hospital. Also during Rasmussen’s tenure, many Tobey Hospital employees have received financial assistance to attend multiple health care seminars and conferences through the Guild’s education fund. Keith A. Hovan, President & CEO of Southcoast Health System and Southcoast Hospitals Group, accepted the final payment of the $100,000 pledge to purchase patient equipment at Tobey Hospital and thanked the Guild for their commitment and dedication to Southcoast. During the meeting, the Guild announced $3,000 in scholarship awards to area high school seniors entering college in the fall to pursue a career in health care. The Guild presented three $1,000 scholarships. This year one of the scholarships was awarded in memory of Ronna Santoro, past President of the Guild, and a second scholarship was awarded in memory of Leonard Martone, a loyal supporter of the Guild. This year’s awards were presented by Tobey Hospital Guild Scholarship Chairperson Josephine Praino. The 2012-2013 Tobey Hospital Guild winners were: Kassandra Gonet, who received the Ronna Santoro scholarship, is a graduate of Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School and will attend Fitchburg State University to pursue a degree in nursing. Nicholas Pereira, who received the Leonard Martone scholarship, is a graduate of Bourne High School and will attend the University of Massachusetts Amherst to pursue a degree in premedical studies. Alexandra Saccone, a graduate of Old Rochester Regional High School, who will attend Boston University to pursue a degree in physical therapy.
