Agenda
1. Head Teacher’s Report
Ms Johnston gave her first report to the Parent Council (see additional sheet for more
information). She is pleased with the start that pupils have made to the school year and she
is feeling welcomed by staff, pupils and parents alike.
2. Security Rota Update
We would like to thank Jeff Vulkan who has created the Parent security rota. He has a
background with the Community Security Trust who provide security and training to Jewish
communal organisations, (CST) and has completed training with them.
There are 20 parents approx. on the rota and other parents were invited to take an active
role with school security.
Police have been in presence in the mornings and 2 parents are required each morning and
afternoon to make sure both gates are covered.
Trevor Lee will have on-going responsibility for the management of the rota and will send
out rota to parents. He asked parents to leave email addresses.
If parents are at school and gates are not covered it would be helpful if they could get a
security vest from the office and stand at the unattended gate.
Aim to send parents for security training in future.
Parents were also asked to remain on their gate until the children had gone into
school/home
3. Joint Campus Update
Any discussions had to stop due to the referendum
Vice Chair is a member of the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council (GJRC) as the
Calderwood Lodge representative and an action group had been set up by GJRC to focus on
the joint campus. Neil Livingstone and Tim Lovat represent the PC on this.
Various meetings have taken place with Mhairi Shaw, Director of Education and the rep
council are waiting for a confirmation in writing of the points that are non-negotiable in the
move.
The formal consultation is likely to take place in November/December 2014, depending on
Scottish Government approval.
Mhairi Shaw has recognised that parents of Calderwood Lodge would prefer the following
1. Own Jewish identity
2. Separate entrances
3. Separate kitchen/dining
4. Separate classrooms/corridors
5. Shared gym/assembly halls
6. Shared playground
Parents were keen that the nursery still had a Jewish ethos, although they did acknowledge
that nurseries are non-denominational but this is an arrangement that East Renfrewshire
Council will continue with the joint campus
