on Transylvania’s history, made up an important cultural and historic

cathedrals at the side of modern masterpieces, as well as museums,
memorial houses and architecture monuments.

Exploration of the Humpleu Cave – SPEOLOGY
There are 33 km fully explored and drawn on maps, the rest of the
cave is almost completely explored but not put on a map yet. It is
certainly the most voluminous cave of Romania, with 12 enormous
rooms, each exceeding 100m. The biggest room lies on the upper level
of the subterranean river that corresponds with the Poienita Cave and is
530 m long, 111 m wide and 35 m high. The cave has Romania’s largest
underground river, 5.6km long with 38 duck-unders. The cave further
contains all possible speothems. One day won’t be enough to see it all,
but you will have a good idea of what the Humpleu Cave offers.

Is a free real-world outdoor treasure hunt. Players try to locate
hidden containers, called geocaches, using a smartphone or GPS and
can then share their experiences online.
The hills and forests, peculiar to the IC PONOR region, are ideal for this
type of treasure hunt, the muscle movement and also the imagination of
the participants go hand in hand.

Exploration in the Fortress of Ponor Cave – SPEOLOGY
Fortress of Ponor Cave has a 2 km long main gallery, active,
impressive in a powerful river, perhaps the largest underground river in
the country, forming flowing waterfalls, rapids and whirlpools. Entering
the cave is through a portal to 70 m high and 30 meters wide to pierce
the wall first sinkholes, and the giant (300 m depth, 1000 m diameter).
After several tens of meters from the entrance of the Valley intersects
two 70 m diameter and 150 feet tall, with vertical walls. Here, under the
portal, he comes from a gallery of a powerful evil. It disappears in siphon
water from the upper cave. She then immediately disappears in the
gallery that represents another early hole underground river cities. Third
Valley is the largest gallery and gives direct access to active.

The Bears Cave
Known as one of the spectacular touristic objectives of Apuseni
Mountains, Bears Cave lies in the vicinity of the location called Chiscau,
in Pietroasa Commune, Bihor District, at an altitude of 482 meters.
The name of the cave is due to the numerous bear fossils, which were
found there, so therefore it represented a favorable place for shelter for
the animals that used to live there 15000 years ago. Owing to the falling
of a huge rock, the mouth of the cave was blocked and more than 140
bears were trapped inside. Being hungry, the bears attacked one
another until they all died.

The Meziad Cave
The cave was explored, opened and mapped for the first time by
Gyula Czaran (1847-1906). So at the beginning of the XX century it was
numbered between the biggest caves of Europe.
Today the cave is of 4 774 m. It was between the first up built caves of
the country. In the galleries were formed fossil remains of ursus
spelaens. The lime-stone formations the stalactits and stalagmits let us
fly to a fairy world.

Galbena Valley – CANYONING
Galbena Valley represents an aisle located between the Apuseni
Mountains in the S-W and W of the Padis basin, in which are draining
the waters inside the Padis basin, towards the Beius depression.
The valley includes very narrow gorges, with vertical walls and with
many abrupt slopes, being a very difficult to cross route, without some
driving experience in crossing the mountain routes.
For the experienced ones it is recommended to cross the portion from
upstream, from the Izbucul Galbenei and until the Luncsoara Valley,
which are not offering only a challenging route but also an extraordinary
landscape.

Situated in the Apuseni Mountains almost 40 km away from the
town of Campeni, in the North-Western part of the district of Alba, in the
commune of Garda de Sus, Scarisoara Cave is one of the largest ice
caves in Romania (it holds the world’s second largest glacier; the
largest in the world is in Slovakia).
The Gallery Maxim Pop lies at 105 m underground, which is the
maximum depth of the cave. The other two sections of the cave are The
Cathedral and Sanziana’s Palace, but they don’t contain ice.

KAYAKING on Belis Lake
This activity comes more and more to those who want thrills and
beyond. It is an activity that not requires great physical condition (for
slow water andlakes ) and can be performed both for the pleasure of
walking on slow rivers water and admire the scenery, or to increase your
adrenalin with a fast descent on an white water mountain river.
Kayaking is one of the largest boats widely used: it can be used at
sea, on lakes, slow rivers and rough mountain river course.
Or if you are a horse riding fan (this is not destinated for
begginers), you can choose a walk in the hills of IC PONOR for admiring
amazing landscapes.

6. SATURDAY

Our way starts from Răchiţele, from the neighbourhood of the
Information office, on the forester`s path towards the Cascada Rachitele.
Despite being a tractor road, it is quite good and it takes exactly to the
waterfall.
We climb towards a high limestone. We rise through the wood, then we
get at a big right turn, where we are left by the blue dot. We follow the
road going in a beautiful surrounding, then after descending we get to a
wood church. We get back to the same forester`s path we used going
towards the waterfall. We go on the left, get to the bridge and the
information office.

Since 1992, Salina Turda has been a halo-therapy center and a
popular tourist attraction. Moreover, it is an open history museum for
anyone willing to connect the salt extraction with the events that
occurred during Roman occupation in Dacia. The Turda Salt Mine is
today a genuine history museum of Salt exploitation.
The Turda Gorges
A “must-see” is Cheile Turzii (Turda Gorges), just a half an hour
drive from the Salt Mine. A beautiful natural reserve with a unique
landscape, it is 1.5 km long and has almost vertical, up to 300 m high
walls. Turda Gorge is one of the most popular attractions in the Apuseni
Mountains. The gorges are of special interest because of their
morphologic variety: caves, fossils, towers, and arcades formed by the
river’s repeated attempts to penetrate the limestone mountain.
