Monthly Hough PTO Meeting – Thursday, September 10, 2015 9:15 a.m. at Salem
Attendees:

Presidents:

Introductions of PTO and attendees.
Principal Update:
Thank you PTO parents for: grounds for beautiful landscaping, back to school BBQ, flat
panel TV in library (bill TBD), pictures tomorrow for F&R, morning drop-off has improved
on Lincoln using crossing guard! (Kristy explained the teachers receive $200 for
classroom, and new Library TV was approved in May.)
New Full-Day Kindergarten and First Grade is going well. Mr. George loves having his
new teammate, Ms. Henning! New lunch procedures are still difficult to get
food/chatting under timelines.
Barrington 150 – Wednesday Sept 16, Hough will take an All-School picture for
Barrington 150, students will be assembled in Red/Black/White per attire per grade.
Barrington 220 District – District hired/purchased software to monitor attendance pre-K
through 12 to assist curriculum in district. i.e. vacation is an unexcused absence and 10
consecutive days of absence can result in a student dropped from classes requiring a reenroll at James Street (no additional fees).
Safety Update – Barrington 220 is investing in a new protection policy for older grades Run/Hide/Fight. Police are instructing on how to protect yourself in HS. Discussion
continues for lower grades based on - what is appropriate for grammar school?
Dr. Marks Update – student assemblies have been scheduled for each month!
Assemblies will be posted on the Hough Calendar.
Hough Renovation – The District is bidding out the Hough renovation project this Fall for
ground breaking in Spring (day after school lets out-2016). Estimated costs @ $2M.

Girl Scout Daddy/Daughter dance – October 9th Hough Gym
President’s Counsel Update:
The President’s council meetings are held bi-weekly for all PTO Presidents. Hot Topics
this week are:
Blended Learning – Barrington 220 is dedicated to one-to-one ratio for all students to
have iPADS by 2016/17 school year. Barrington 220 is moving toward more on-line
learning
QB article– Student security across the district at all locations.
Performing Arts will be including all schools across the district to regulate policies.
Huge Hough Thank you to: grounds crew, back-to-school BBQ, Back- to-school night,
new Hawkline, and update website (post meeting minutes)
Communication policy: please refer to the PTO page for all updates
Fundraising:
The PTO fundraising assists with student assemblies, back to school teacher gifts, assist
with any teacher requests; currently running - Spirit Wear, Gift Wrap, Heinen’s, Box
Tops, and RED card at Target. PTO hosts largest fundraiser via Parents Time Out at
Makray on Saturday, February 6 2016.
Gift Wrap (Ann) – Gift Wrap orders will be taken from September 23-Oct 7. Our goal is
$4500 ($1600 back to school).
Environmental Committee:
Fit & Fresh – The orders for Fit & Fresh are completed, and we made @ $600 for the
school.
Hough will be updating the café for a new environmental process; tera cycling has
begun (capri sun and go-go squeeze pouches), Art project mural has begun with the
assistance of our Art teachers
Hough Green Club – kids want to plan/join a Hough Green Club – NEED VOLUNTEERS!
Room Parents: If you signed up at Back-to-School Night to be a Room Parent please attend the
Room Parent Meeting on September 30th in Hough Gym. If you would still like to volunteer,
contact Jenn Newman or Andrea Conners.
Blessings in a Backpack: AnnMarie Dymon will set up SignUp Genius for those interested in
volunteering for Blessing in a Backpack. The District supplies food for the F&R children by filling
a back pack for F&R to take home for the weekends. The backpacks are filled at Sunny Hill 9:30
am Thursday mornings and distributed to all schools by volunteers – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Hough Eats Out: Hough PTO has requested local restaurants to gives a percentage (usually 20%)
of the Hough family total bill back to Hough. Hough Eats Out is hosted monthly by different
restaurants…September 23 at Meatheads!
Jelly Jaunt: 3rd Annual fun run (5K), named for our beloved Nurse Jelly, is scheduled for October
2nd after school in the playground. This fun-run is designed kids to get healthy. Hough Middle
School volunteers will be assisting our students and Barrington Committed will also be
sponsoring our event!
Tasty Tuesdays: Starting in October, clementine’s, will be featured as a new tasty treat for
Hough students to try and give feedback. This is held one Tuesday a month- VOLUNTEERS
NEEDED
Book Fair: Hough hosts two Book Fairs each school year, October and March. The 2015-16
dates TBD by next meeting – look at the Hough Hawkline! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Barrington Giving Day: AnnMarie Dymon is collecting any used bikes, toys, games for the
December distribution for Barrington Juniors.
